Tim's first stop was at The Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg, where the Harold Prince-directed touring production of The Phantom of the Opera was billeted.

The same production team will arrive in Manila soon to stage the famous Broadway musical.

Being the fashionista that he always is, Tim didn't miss the opportunity to check out the costumes and props backstage.

The intricate details on every piece of prop and clothing is "a work of art," he says.

All over the streets of Maboneng, one can find unexpected artworks including this interactive wall where people can just grab chalk and write down the things they want to do before they die.

Within the area of this wall is a small skate park where kids can play all day.

"Actually, it's not that expensive to travel in South Africa compared to other cities," says Tim.

"Siguro ang mahal lang is iyong air fare, but the prices sa Johannesburg are mura lang."

As of press time, the exchange rate of one US dollar to South African rand is 8.43.

When in South Africa, one mustn't fail to go on a safari ride and watch wild animals in their natural habitat.

Tim was with his good friend Tessa Prieto-Valdes and other Filipino buddies during the trip.

Antelopes and gazelles were all over the place, says Tim.

Grazers like these usually frequent the lush parts of the safari, being herbivores that eat only grass and certain plants.

The fastest land animal on the planet, the cheetah, was just pacing on the dirt road.

It halted at the sight of Tim and his buddies' truck. "O, di ba, nag-pose pa talaga siya!" says Tim.

The female lions were also a pretty sight.

"Sila naman, medyo mas fierce because they're protective of their young," Tim noted.

Tim's idea of playing with the lion cubs at the sanctuary was to make "fierce face" poses beside them.

"I don't know, siya ang nauna [nag-roar] so ginaya ko lang  siya," he said.

Didn't he feel scared standing so close to a wild animal?  "No. Not at all. I love animals!"

From Johannesburg, Tim traveled by himself all the way to the Cape of Good Hope, where he hooked up with a random tourist group.

It's a habit of his to take spontaneous trips from time to time. "Basta gusto kong pumunta sa isang place, sige lang, go lang, I just go with it. It's like, I drop a pin on a map and kung saan mahulog, doon ako pupunta."

En route to the city, he took this lovely picture of Table Mountain. "It's beautiful kasi it looks like there are faces sa side," he says.

"When I arrived in the Cape, I was greeted by this beautiful rainbow na talaga naman, tingnan mo, it's not just a portion of it, but a full rainbow talaga! I was tempted nga to go down to the beach and see the end of the rainbow," Tim quipped as he showed PEP this beautiful photo.

"You know, I knew right away that this is going to be a good trip, good vibes lang," he adds.

Down at the beach, where the end of the rainbow was supposed to be, Tim found his "pot of gold."

"Mga peguins nagkalat sa beach! They're building nests for their eggs, I think. Really cute."

Tim calls this photo his "Brangelina moment" as he posed with an African kid who was part of their tour group.

Behind them is the famous Cape Point lighthouse.

Jumping at the peak of Cape Point sure looks exciting.

"It is fun! Parang I'm jumping on top of the world!"

Tim ended his South African sojourn by going up the Table Mountain at the Cape of Good Hope national park.

He says, "Traveling really recharges me, like it gives me this surge of new energy every time. Kung sa iba nakakapagod [magbiyahe], ako hindi ako napapagod kasi I always learn something and it makes me feel good and energized to work again."
