BEHIND THE SCENES: Jericho Rosales in cover pictorial for Men's Health Philippines

For the September 2012 issue of Men's Health Philippines, Jericho Rosales agreed to do his pictorial in La Union to better showcase his lifestyle as a surfer.

The shoot held last July 27-28 marks the third time that Jericho has posed for the men's magazine published by Summit Media.

Jericho Rosales has been surfing since 1990, the year when he was introduced to the sport by a friend. He refers to his fiberglass surfboard as "Nuggets." Photography: Jocelyn Dimaculangan

Asked if he went on a diet, Echo said: "Protein shake after workout for recovery and no white rice." He later added: "I had a diet of high protein and low carb and plenty of fruits."

Echo is grateful to Men's Health Philippines for giving him another chance to grace the cover for the third time. "I can say na this cover shoot's helped me become better pagdating sa pag-aalaga ko ng katawan ko. There are things that I've learned. Na-inspire talaga ‘ko. So I mean, this is an answered prayer for me, because I said, you know, I challenged myself. I got so frustrated, and I said, talagang I'm gonna make myself better this year. I mean my body. Echo entertained everyone with an anecdote about his joining the Mr. Pogi contest in 1996. He said that initially he made fun of those who joined the male pageant aired on the noontime show Eat Bulaga! Echo says that he sustained many injuries in the past. "Na-frustrate kasi ako with all my injuries...I had ACL [anterior cruciate ligament] injury, disc bulge on my lumbar, dito sa may lower back ko, sprained neck last year, torn ligament sa left shoulder. Really, sobrang daming injuries na there was a time I couldn't do my stunts, hindi ko talaga magawa yung ibang sports na ginagawa ko. I used to do parkour, I used to just...run, run like crazy...basketball, surfing, skateboarding and stunts." Photography: Jocelyn Dimaculangan

Echo is today also learning about running his own business. He explained, "We're developing a brand called CTL or Coast Thru Life. It's myself, an architect Buji Libarnes, who's my bestfriend, and Nikki Dela Paz, girlfriend ni Buji. So there's three of us. It's more like a movement.
