In her new townhouse, even without a Prince Charming, Francine is the queen of her own castle.

The glass wine rack beside the sofa displays unopened bottles of wine. "Collection 'yan ni Mommy," Francine says. "'Yong iba diyan, bigay pa ng mga kaibigan ng dad ko noong buhay pa siya."

The interior of Francine Prieto's townhouse has an eclectic European feel-straight lines, contemporary furnishings, and surprising elements. George Torres, the interior designer, says, "Ayaw nila noong very elegant na parang Victorian. Gusto nila very simple. Ang exact words na ginamit nila, they want 'yong simple and cute." All the furniture and appliances in the townhouse are brand-new. The most expensive single item Francine bought was the deep-red leather sofa, which cost over P50,000 at Play and Display on Quezon Avenue, Quezon City. Photography: Rene Mejia

On the second floor, the walls on both sides of the four-foot-wide hallway was turned into a gallery of Francine's large photos and magazine covers. Posters of her movies and product endorsements are hung alongside. The picture frames were custom-made at the Ortigas Home Depot, Ortigas Center. Photography: Rene Mejia

At the end of this five-meter-long hallway, outside Francine's bedroom door, is Mommy Amy's bedroom. A track light specially designed for galleries was installed to illuminate the photos.

There are three different kinds of air fresheners in Francine's bathroom.

Francine wears size-10 shoes. "Mas type ko 'yong open na sapatos. Ayoko ng mga shoes na closed." Her knee-high boots, kept in a closet, are all custom-made.

Francine on having a bedroom of her own: "Kaya nagustuhan ko itong bahay na ito, kasi lahat kami may kani-kanya nang kuwarto. Dati kasi, sama-sama kaming magkakapatid. 'Tapos, no'ng namatay na 'yong dad ko, do'n na ako sa tabi ng mommy ko natutulog." But old habits die hard. Even if she now has a whole queen-size bed to herself, she still sleeps, not in the middle of the bed, but on the left side. "Saka 'pag natutulog ako, tumitiklop ako. Lalo na pag malamig." On the third floor, a six-square-meter space is used as a mini-gym. The treadmill, bought three years ago, is now hardly used, since Francine started going to a gym in Greenhills, San Juan. "Hindi ako mahilig sa rubber shoes," she says, "pero pag kailangan ko, sa men's section ng department store ako bumibili." Photography: Rene Mejia

The three-story townhouse stands on a 118-square-meter lot area and has a floor area of 300 square meters. Francine says that, when she got the place, "may nakikipag-unahan pa sa amin." But Francine and family were the first on the draw when it came to paying the down payment, so the owner closed the deal with them.
