Malou Choa-Fagar (left), the well-loved lady boss of Eat Bulaga, turns 54 on November 12. The party is held on the 14th at the poolside of Mother Lily Monteverde's Imperial Palace Suites.
Among the early birds are Ian de Leon (middle) and his brother Kenneth.
"Why don't we take a little piece of summer sky/ Hang it on a tree/ For that's the way to start a pretty world/ For you and me," sings the 17-year-old Bossa sensation Sabrina (right). It's a line from Sergio Mendes's "Pretty World."
Beside her is Tita Malou, the popular nick name of the birthday celebrator, and Sabrina's manager Sherbet Ilacad (left).
This is quite a well-represented group: (from left to right) there's Allan Diones, a representative from the press; Pia Guanio, a TV host-actress; Tita Malou, a showbiz bigwig; Ms. Redgie Magno, GMA-7's program manager for primetime TV series; and Chito Roño, a film director.
(From left to right) Tabloid writer Ron Romulo, Showbiz Central's Jojo Gabinete, YES! magazine's Anna Pingol, Abante Tonight's Jerry Olea, and Pilipino Star Ngayon's Salve Asis.
Ian de Leon, whose signature videoke piece is James Ingram's "Just Once," surprises the crowd with his version of "Blue Suede Shoes," a Carl Perkins original and popularized by Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley.
"Well, its one for the money/ Two for the show/ Three to get ready/Now go, cat, go."
There's really no doubt about it, Ian is the son of the Drama King and the Superstar. He's both an actor and a performer.
Roselle Monteverde-Teo (right), who is among the early birds, leaves the party a few minutes after she arrives.
After an hour, she returns with Manny Valera (left). The two recently finished their project Hide and Seek, a movie topbilled by one of Manny's prized wards, Jean Garcia.
Just before singing the "Happy Birthday" song, the Wednesday Clubbers offer a toast for Ms. Malou.
By the way, Wednesday Club is composed of press people, showbiz executives and producers, including actors and directors. They meet up every Wednesday to unwind.
Ricky Davao (left) leads the crowd in singing the "Happy Birthday" song. Gervy Santiago (right), a photographer and a member of the Wednesday Club, is the cake bearer. "Ang kandila na ito, ilang birthday cakes na rin ang nakinabang sa kanya."
Wednesday Club's crooner Ricky Davao sings for the audience even if he isn't feeling well. He sings the Tagalog version of "That's All," which has more than 13 versions, including Frank Sinatra's,Nat King Cole's, and Michael Buble's.
"Tunay na pagmamahal sa habang-buhay/ 'Yan lang ang aking maiaalay/ At ang tanging puso ko nakalaan sa 'yo/ Yun lang, yun lang.
YES! magazine executive editor Pete Lacaba joins Ricky on stage. The song is his "salinawit."
