The Subarus restaurant-bar on Sgt. Esguerra St., Quezon City, was the venue for the 35th birthday celebration of John "Sweet" Lapus. Outside, a machine churned out pink fluffy cotton candy while inside, various desserts and a chocolate fountain gave a sugar rush to all the guests. Both GMA-7 and ABS-CBN stars came to greet the Universal Sweet a happy birthday last July 7.

A bubble machine was set up that night outside the venue. Fans of Sweet can watch his upcoming concert on July 26 at Zirkoh Timog Avenue.

In line with Sweet's monicker, the celebration featured 35 desserts that guests could choose from. John revealed that it was his former manager Biboy Arboleda who conceptualized this dessert party.

Around midnight, the bartender set up several martini glasses in layers. He carefully poured alcohol into the glasses, causing the liquid to overflow down to the glasses and the bar counter. He lit up the alcoholic drink and flames suddenly burst on the counter of the bar. John then drank this fiery concoction.

When asked to give her birthday wish for Sweet, Eugene Domingo said, "more birthdays to come, mas marami pa siyang shows na successful, tuloy-tuloy na magandang career at maipakita niyang mas marami pa siyang kayang gawin sa showbiz."

Providing the music that night was the band P-Side, which stands for Brgy. Paltok, located near West Avenue, Quezon City, where the band members reside. The trio sang the upbeat song "September."

Sweet expressed his gratitude for celebrating another milestone in his life. "I would like to think of 35 as step closer to maturity, blessing at the same time na, you know...God has given you 35 years in this world, I'm so thankful and happy."
