On its 5th year, the MYX Music Awards was held at the Music Museum in San Juan City last Tuesday, March 2.
Sarah Geronimo bagged the most number of awards—bringing home the
Favorite Media Soundtrack, Favorite Remake, Favorite Female Artist, and
Favorite Artist trophies. Last year, she also won in the same
categories.
All the performers had exciting numbers, especially, Rico Blanco who
surprised everyone that night with his tribute to the late King of Pop

The three celebrity VJs of MYX always have a good time whenever they are together.
"Ah, gano'n? Laglagan na ba?" was VJ Luis Manzano's reaction after VJs Nikki Gil and Iya Villana told him that there are "kariton" or pushcarts outside the Music Museum.
The joke refers to "Pushcart Educator" and CNN Hero of the Year Efren Peñaflorida, who's now a suitor of Luis's ex-girlfriend Angel Locsin.
Car-racing wonder kid turned actor Matteo Guidicelli and the late Master Rapper's daughter Saab Magalona presented and accepted the Favorite New Artist award for rapper Young JV.
Topping off the tribute medley for Jose Mari Chan was Christian Bautista, who released a tribute album last year to the only Filipino three-Diamond Record awardee. He sang Chan's mega-hit song "Beautiful Girl."
Receiving the MYX Magna Award (MYX's own Hall of Fame award) for Jose Mari Chan's exceptional contribution to the Philippine Music Industry was his son, Francisco Rafael Chan.
Francisco said his father was not able to attend the awarding ceremony because he was in Vancouver, Canada, doing what his father loves doing best—singing.
After giving tribute to Jose Mari Chan, MYX channel head Andre Allan Alvarez and VJ Iya called Christian Bautista on stage to receive his special citation.
Christian was surprised and almost speechless when he received his award "for proudly representing the Filipino artists in the international music scene."
Aside from being a bestselling recording artist in Southeast Asia, Christian also represented the Philippines as one of the three singers during the opening ceremonies of the 1st Asian Beach Games held in Indonesia in 2008. He shared the same stage with top Indonesian music stars Mark Lazaro and Andre Hehaussa.
Bossa Nova singer Sitti laughed when Aiza quipped that she has no choice but to be the "Asian Acoustic Sensation" because "hindi naman ako leading lady material."
Aiza and Sitti presented the Favorite Remake award, which was won by Sarah Geronimo.
Jamir Garcia of Slapshock and Kyla presented the Favorite Collaboration award to Ely Buendia and the late Francis Magalona for the song "Higante." Magalona's daughter Saab, received the award.
VJ Iya and Richard Poon handed the Favorite Guest Appearance in a Music Video award to Heart Evangelista, who got included in Hale's "Bahay Kubo" music video.
Heart, who was originally an ABS-CBN talent, was also a celebrity VJ for MYX for seven years before she transfered to GMA-7.
Urbandub (back) was also celebrating their 10th anniversary as a band. Performing with them here was Franco Reyes of the rock band Franco, singing the Urbandub hit song "Soul Searching."
Nu-Rock-A-Billy band Hilera's bassist Ivan Garcia exhibited not only his bass-playing talent but also his balancing skills. The band peformed its hit song "Radical."
At the end of his song, Rico did a solo dance and "pop-locked" to a techno-dance music. The dance number was meant as a tribute to his idol, the late Michael Jackson.
