"Kasi na-realize ko noong sinabi ng mga doctors na never na akong puwedeng magka-baby, so sabi ko okay. Okay na rin na two boys kasi 'pag nagka-girl [ako], kawawa ‘yong girl," revealed Kris Aquino in a taped interview with The Buzz last Sunday, May 13.
At only 35 weeks into her pregnancy, Kris gave birth to her first child with husband James Yap on April 19. The newborn, James Aquino-Yap, weighed only 4.3 pounds and was placed in an incubator.
Meanwhile, Kris suffered several complications due to pregnancy. Early on, she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, a type of diabetes that inflicts pregnant women. After delivering baby James through caesarean operation, the doctors discovered that TV host-actress had a clot in her lung and internal bleeding. Kris had to undergo a second operation to stop the bleeding.
Kris and baby James checked out of the hospital on April 29 and are awaiting full recovery at home, in the Aquino-Yap's rented Ascot apartment.
Daily routine. In her interview with The Buzz, Kris talked about her daily routine now that she is temporarily a stay-at-home mom.
She narrated, "Ten a.m. maliligo ako tapos pupunta na siya [baby James] sa room after naka-freshen up ako kasi marami pang seremonya. Kasi iyong mga sugat ko dito [sa arms], nilalagyan pa rin ng parang antibiotic cream and all. Tapos mayroon pang—ngayon kasi nagte-taping so hinubad ko siya—stockings. Isinusuot iyon... Ngayon, naka-binder pa ako para sa sugat.
"Dati, hindi ako nagbe-breakfast. Ngayon, nagbe-breakfast ako. I eat cereal and I drink milk. Tapos habang nagpa-pump, tea ‘yong iniinom ko. Parang the whole day wala rin akong ginagawa kundi uminom din ng milk. Tapos hihiga kami at maghihintay kami hanggang dumating ang dad niya. Si James dumarating after practice depende kung walang weight training.
"Gabi, after dinner, maliligo na ako ulit kasi after a hot shower, napapansin ko mas may milk production. So magpa-pump ulit habang nanonood ng Walang Kapalit. Normally talaga, 10:30 p.m. lights out na kami."
Kris used to be seen in three different shows—Game KNB?, Kapamilya Deal or No Deal, and The Buzz—seven days a week. Now, she is preoccupied in taking care of the new addition to their family. She breastfeeds four times a day, using a breast pump.
"Ang dami kong natutunan kay Sharon Cuneta," said Kris. "Si Mega ang nagturo sa akin ng tamang paraan para maraming ma-express kaagad na mabilis. Kasi may certain massage kang gagawin at may certain pindot-pindot factor."
She explained, "It takes 30 minutes for both breasts na. Most of the time, nakaka-four ounces ako so ang spacing niyan, every three to four hours. Kaya lang after, parang hindi ako makausap din for 30 minutes dahil super-nakakapagod. Kaya bilib na bilib ako sa mga moms na kinaya na mag-breastfeed nang matagal. It's so exhausting. Sa gabi right before sleeping, mayroon nang naka-stock."
She added, "I'll be honest. Mayroong mga nag-donate, di ba, and I want to say 'Thank you' to them. Noong time na hindi pa ako makapag-produce at kailangang-kailangan talaga, super-bait sila nag-share sila."
MOTHER'S DAY. "Hay naku, ngayon ko talaga nadama talaga kung gaano kahirap and ka-fulfilling maging nanay! Dapat every day of the year, sine-celebrate ang mga nanay talaga kasi super-hirap, pero sobrang rewarding talaga," said the mom of two. Kris has an older son, Joshua, with former partner Phillip Salvador.
Meanwhile, James is still adjusting and trying to become familiar with his newborn son.
