Naiproklama na si Lucy Torres-Gomez bilang bagong Representative ng 4^th District ng Leyte. Landslide victory ang tinamo ni Lucy sa kanyang bayan ng Ormoc.

Pero, nang i-address siyang "Congresswoman" ni Ricky Lo sa taped interview nito sa Startalk kahapon, May 15, agad niya sinabing Lucy pa rin ang itawag sa kanya.

RELUCTANT CANDIDATE. The unang tanong ni Ricky ay kumusta na siya.

"Well, I don't deny that I'm very new," sabi ni Lucy. "Sabi ko nga, this was beyond my wildest dreams.  But when I was given the job, I really see it as first, responsibility. A very big responsibility that I am going to take seriously. Number two, I see it as a privilege to be given this chance to serve. When I was thinking to really substitute for Richard, pinag-uusapan namin... sabi niya, 'Honey, you really have to. You really have to substitute.'

"Initially, all of me was, 'No, no, no...' Kasi hindi ako pulitiko, e. But then, binalikan ko kung bakit tumakbo si Richard in the first place. Ano ang nag-udyok kay Richard na tumakbo. Ano ang vision niya, ano ang platform niya. It became a deciding factor for me."

Kung matatandaan, humalili si Lucy sa asawang si Richard Gomez nang hindi matugunan ng huli ang residency requirement na hinihiling ng Commission on Elections sa kanya.

Katabi ni Lucy ang mister na si Richard habang ini-interview ni Ricky.  Tinanong din si Richard kung sa pangyayaring 'yon, hindi ba nito parang isinubo ang asawa sa pulitika?

"Hindi, it was a decision made on the table. Very clear and in fairness, it's all up to Lucy to decide whether she will take it or not."

PARTNERS IN SERVICE. Ngayong isa na ngang kongresista si Lucy, ano naman ang papel ni Richard na siyang naging instrumento kung bakit napasok ang asawa sa pulitika?

"Richard  will be there to help me," sagot ni Lucy. "I will make sure that all the dreams, all his plans for Ormoc, I will push it and Richard will be very much beside me also.  Sabi ko nga sa mga taga-Ormoc, matutuwa sila dahil isang Gomez lang ang ibinoto nila, pero, dalawa kaming puspusang magtatrabaho."

Dugtong pa niya, "With all this disqualification case, siya rin naman ang magiging 'congresswoman', I already know what I am going to do as a wife."

Sa bagong karera ni Lucy ngayon, hindi ba nagwo-worry si Richard rito?

"That is why I always have to be with Lucy para kaya naming protektahan ang bawat isa. Siguro in the past, nagkaroon na rin ako ng relationship sa mga pulitiko. Marami  sa kanila, alam mo na kung paano mag-isip, iba-ibang klase. You just have to be careful also," tugon ni Richard.

Ano naman ang mga bagay na kinakatakutan ni Lucy?

"I have fears but I always trusted that something bigger, someone greater than myself," sabi ni Lucy. "So, alam ko, no matter how big my problem is, I know, I have a bigger God. Of course, everything is in perspective right away."
