Box-office comedienne Eugene Domingo's career continues to skyrocket following the surprising success of her launching movie, Kimmy Dora: Kambal sa Kiyeme (2009).
This year alone, Uge (Eugene's nickname) has appeared in several television shows: Kap's Amazing Stories, Comedy Bar, SRO Cinema Serye: Hot Mama, Wachamakulit, and First Time. Her upcoming shows are JejeMom and TV5's September comedy-sitcom Inday Wanda.
Eugene's movie career has also been on an upswing as proven by the good showing of Working Girls and Here Comes The Bride at the tills. On August 25, Mamarazzi, Regal Entertainment's 50th anniversary offering, will hit the theaters nationwide.
With all the good things going on in her professional life, fans may be wondering how Uge's personal life fares, particularly in the romance department.
"Unexciting!" Uge laughs.
Not that the comedienne—who is touted by some as the next Comedy Queen after Ai-Ai de las Alas—is feeling desperate about not having a partner.
In fact, she makes fun of the situation as if it were a comedy sequence.
"Kasi pag kailangan mo ibibigay naman sa 'yo, e," said Eugene at the press conference of Inday Wanda held last July 21 at the Rembrandt Hotel in Quezon City.
"Baka sabi ni Lord 'Hindi mo pa kailangan kaya huwag kang mamilipit! Matulog ka! Mag-shower ka!' Si Lord talaga ang nagsabi!" she laughed heartily.
All her projects are enough to keep Uge grateful and content: "Siguro dati mas naiisip ko 'yang lovelife-lovelife na 'yan. Pero sa ngayon, sa dami ng trabaho, biyaya at pagmamahal na natatanggap ko sa mga nakakatrabaho ko, masaya naman ako sa sitwasyon ko. Wala naming dahilan para maghanap pa ko."
THAT THING CALLED "MAGIC". Eugene portrays an overprotective single mother in Mamarazzi. Her character's triplets are the result of an arranged one-night affair with a sperm donor portrayed by Diether Ocampo.
In reality, however, Uge doesn't relish the thought of raising a child as a single mom.
"Sana kung papayagan, kung papahintulutan, kung magkakaanak, siyempre gusto ko may ama," Uge seriously said during a press engagement, this time at the Imperial Palace Suites along Tomas Morato in Quezon City.
"Hindi talaga kaya kung nanay lang, e. Sa makatotohanang usapan, mas maganda sa development ng anak mo kung may makikitang ama."
The amiable comedienne feels comfortable about having a husband even without kids.
