Now, Wowie de Guzman is 31 years old and trying to make a comeback in mainstream showbiz. "Since na kay Tito Alfie Lorenzo na ako, [naging] co-host niya ako sa radio show niya every Saturday, so tinanong niya ako kung seryoso ba akong bumalik. ‘Sige po, Tito A!' Ngayon start ulit ng little by little, bumabalik ulit sa showbiz. And ito nga ang pinaka-starting point ko, ang 20th anniversary ni Juday." Photo: Noel Orsal

Wowie de Guzman and Judy Ann Santos reunite! Well, not exactly. Actually, the two former on-screen partners had a reunion of sorts at Juday's 20th anniversary concert, titled Bida ng Buhay Ko, at the Big Dome last June 16. Wowie had a surprise dance number, together with Spencer Reyes and Jao Mapa, for his former flame.

"Hindi pa kami nakapag-usap kasi lahat surprise, e. Nakita ko lang siya sa stage. So wala pa kaming pag-uusap so far," said Wowie about Juday.

The former UMD (Universal Motion Dancers) member was paired with Juday in what would become one of the most popular soaps that aired on free TV, Mara Clara. They have since made some 12 movies together. Also, Wowie is Juday's first ever boyfriend.

After the love team's hype plateau, Juday was cast with other leading men like Rico Yan, Dingdong Dantes, and Piolo Pascual. Meanwhile, Wowie went solo and starred in a couple of horror flicks.

In 2003, Wowie found himself leaving the glitz and glamour of TV/film for the bright lights of the stage.

"Noon talaga seryoso ako sa teatro. Kumbaga doon ko finocus ‘yong career ko after TV, nag-shift ako doon. Five years sa Tanghalang CCP, sa Ballet Philippines, sa PeTA, halos lahat [ng theater groups]. So nahasa ‘yong craft. Worth it naman kasi marami akong natutunan. I think malaking tulong na rin ‘yon sa akin," he said about his hiatus.

He explained that the two media have very different disciplines.

"Maraming advantage and disadvantage ‘cause sa theater limited lang ang audience mo. Unlike sa TV, nationwide. ‘Yong medium rin kasi [ng teatro] nasa entablado, you're acting for hours. Unlike sa TV, puwede kang i-cut and puwede kang i-correct," he commented.

At thirty-one, Wowie is still single, contrary to most reports about him.

"Single pa rin. Wala pa rin akong anak. Ang dami ngang nagsasabi na, ‘May anak ka na daw.' Pero wala pa," he clarified.

He is also trying to make a comeback in mainstream showbiz.

He narrated, "Lahat naman alam na nasa theater ako. Since na kay Tito Alfie Lorenzo na ako, [naging] co-host niya ako sa radio show niya every Saturday, so tinanong niya ako kung seryoso ba akong bumalik. ‘Sige po, Tito A!' Ngayon start ulit ng little by little, bumabalik ulit sa showbiz. And ito nga ang pinaka-starting point ko, ang 20th anniversary ni Juday."

Wowie admitted that until now people still remember him as Juday's on-screen partner. This time around he is trying to make it as a solo act.

"Everytime nakikita nila ako, identified pa rin ako kay Judy Ann pero past na ‘yon. Iba na ‘yong generation ngayon," he said in jest.
