The BB Gandanghari-starrer Halik ng Tarantula was staged at Teatrino, Promenade, San Juan from March 7 to 9. Directed by Soxie Topacio, the play is a brave remake of the Filipino playwright Rene Villanueva's adaptation of the Pulitzer-winning novel turned play Kiss of the Spider Woman.
Dark, harrowing, and stirring, Halik ng Tarantula tells the tale of two political prisoners in 1970's Argentina. In spite of their different backgrounds and ideals, the homosexual Molina and the young activist Valentin cause each other to change into different individuals as an effect of their shared imprisonment for six months.
The cast also includes Jet Alcantara and Jovic Monsod, alternating as Valentin; Richard Quan as the architect; Rob Sy as the warden; and Matthew Chang as the violinist. Halik ng Tarantula is the first venture of BB Gandanghari Inc.
