The Ateneo de ManilaUniversity Theater Arts Seniors 2008 presents its production of Fluid to raise funds for this batch'screative thesis showcase, which will be staged on November. The play runs untilSeptember 16 at the Fine Arts Studio Theater, Loyola School, Ateneo de ManilaUniversity.
Art is center-stage inthis Palanca-winning full-length play by playwright/director, Floy Quintos. Fluidwon second place in the full-length play category of the 2003 Don CarlosPalanca Memorial Awards for Literature. Direk Floy gives a fresh twist to thisplay as a young cast of actors step in to restage his work. He is currently thedirector of GMA-7's Saturday showbiz talk show Startalk and was lastseen on TV as one of the judges of Pinoy Pop Superstar.
Art brings togetherthe lives of three couples as they grapple for a life of compromise. Amir is atalented painter on the fringes of a breakdown when he meets Mira, a rich artcollector, who challenges him and his belief in art. Jom and Alben arestruggling theater actors debating on the struggle between high art and popularart while trying to make their relationship work. Renata is the coordinator foran orchestra whose passion for "real art" drives the domineering eventscoordinator, Simone, crazy in a series of wacky affairs.
At the opening ofAmir's one-man-show, they all discover true art in the midst of a pandemoniumthat looks into hypocrisy and the awakening of exhausted creative spirits.
Heading an all-Ateneancast is Missy Maramara who plays the worldly art collector, Mira Albano,alternating with Jasmine Mendiola and Pia Bonalos. Paolo Galia and Jio Javieralternate as Amir Montano, a struggling painter. Alben and Jom, two theateractors, are played by alternates JJ Ignacio and Nikko Atienza, and alternatesGerauld Rivera and RX 93.1 DJ Jake de Leon, respectively. The playful eventscoordinator, Simone, is played by Jorja Hung, Diega Villanueva and Jean PierreReniva while Trency Caga-anan gives life to Philharmonic coordinator, Renata.
Floy Quintos directsthe play featuring the set design of Monica Sebial and costumes design of MaharMangahas. Voltaire de Jesus handles the lights.
Framed within the context of sex, love, money,commerce and power, witness the three couples' game of art and compromise atthe Ateneo de Manila University on the following dates:
