William Shakespeare entertains audiences through exuberant physical comedy and witty wordplay in Love's Labour's Lost. The King and his cohorts vow to spend three years devoted only to study with no distraction at all from anyone or anything only to find themselves tempted by ladies and love when the Princess and her entourage arrive for a visit.
Director Bart Guingona sets Shakespeare's flamboyant play in the mid-‘80s in Manila's University Belt right before the EDSA revolution—the days of "psychedelic furs," Spandau ballet," early "Madonna," and "Duran Duran." It is a period when women prefer big hair, raccoon eyes, and shoulder pads while men sport "siyete" haircuts and baggy pants.
Love's Labour's Lost features Epy Quizon, Nic Manahan, Hans Eckstein, Gabs Santos, Micah Muñoz, Jenny Jamora, Cris Villonco, Crisel Consunji, and Caisa Borromeo as the lovers. They are ably supported by Ana Bitong, Oliver Usison, Jejie Esguerra, Kenneth Keng, Pom Docena, Dingdong Rosales, and Bonggoy Manahan.
Love's Labour's Lost will run from September 15 to October 7 at Onstage, Greenbelt 1, Makati City.
