"Gantimpala Theater embarks on an ambitious undertaking as it gives life to Dr. Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere, through its stage version of Kanser, written by playwright Jomar Fleras and directed by Roobak Valle.
"Kanser, the play, draws attention to the most iconic characters of the Noli Me Tangere that were used by Dr. Rizal to expose the various ill elements of the Philippine colonial society.
“We offer to the youth Gantimpala’s Kanser,” says director Valle. “We hope this stage version will assist them to better understand the novel that they are studying in school and at the same time, make them realize that all the lessons from the Noli continue to be relevant, especially nowadays when graft and corruption is out of control. We hope the play makes them think, discern and hopefully be more conscientious individuals.”
"Considered as the longest-running theater production, Kanser earned a nomination as Best Play Revival from Philippine Broadway.com last year.
"Kapuso hunk Jay Gonzaga portrays Crisostomo Ibarra. Theater ingénues Ellrica Laguardia and CJ Mangahis are Maria Clara alternates.
"Roy Sotero and Kat Castillo give life to the tragic duo of Elias and Sisa.
"Back on the Gantimpala stage are senior artists, acting as some of the major characters from the Noli. They are Joe Gruta as Pilosopong Tasyo, Dante Balois as Kapitan Tiago, Ku Aquino as Padre Damaso, Hope Matriano and Doreen Bernal as Doña Victorina and Kathy Arguelles as Doña Consolacion and Jojo Riguerra and Patrick Patawaran as Padre Salvi.
