Enrollment is now ongoing for Little Boy Productions 2008 summer workshops that will run from April 7 to 27 at the Old Campus of Sacred Heart School-Jesuit on Mango Avenue, Cebu City.
Little Boy Productions will be offering classes in musical theater, divided into kids (5 to 7 years old), pre-teens (8 to 12 years old), and teens (13 years old and up), and a creative writing class for teens and adults (13 years old and up.)
Supervising the musical theater workshops will be actor-director Michael Williams who brings with him a wealth of international stage experience, having been in the original cast of Miss Saigon and The King and I in London's West End. The workshops will culminate in the staging of a musical showcase featuring all the participants at the Cenewof Theater in the Marcelo Fernan Press Center, Lahug.
A new offering is a creative writing workshop to be led by award-winning writer Lawrence Ypil, which will introduce students and interested professionals to the art of creative writing in poetry, fiction, and the essay. A winner in the Poetry Category of the Palanca Awards and a literature teacher at the Ateneo de Manila, Lawrence Ypil has written poems and essays that have been published here and abroad.
Through writing exercises, mini-lecture seminars, and on-site writing projects, the workshop aims to dispel the notion that writing is a difficult, serious endeavor, and to approach writing in a fun and imaginative way. While it is encouraged that participants have experience in creative writing, this workshop encourages beginning writers and interested students who have had no previous writing experience. Patterned after the popular workshops for painting and drawing, the workshop for creative writing is built on the premise that the art of writing is a skill that can be discovered, developed, and mastered.
