The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) offers several courses that will ensure that participants continue to learn even during the summer break.
For starters, the Creative Musical Theater class offers four weeks of fun and games, creative drama sessions, creative songwriting, creative improvisations, movement explorations, music sessions, and vocalization exercises.
The class will be facilitated by award-winning writer, composer, actor and playwright Vincent A. De Jesus as well as singer, music teacher and vocal coach Neomi Tabanao-Gonzales.
The Creative Dance Theater will teach participants that dance theater does not always have to be classical ballet, jazz, ballroom or folk dancing. Explore body movements as a medium of artistic expression, dig cutting space with the body, learn the eight basic efforts and movements found in natural, socio-cultural and man-made environments.
Senior PETA artist-teacher-choreographer Dudz Teraña will facilitate the class, joined by dancer, choreographer and actor for theater and television Carlon John Matobato.
Participants for both classes must be at least 17 years old and must show an interest in music, acting, and movement.
Workshop starts April 15 and ends May 10, Monday to Friday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the PETA Theater Center, #5 Eymard Drive, New Manila, Quezon City (at the back of Quezon City Sports Club).
Other courses offered are Children's Theater 1 (ages 5 to 8), Children's Theater 2 (ages 9 to 12), Teen Theater (ages 13 to 16), Theater Arts 1 (ages 17 and above), Basic Acting (ages 17 and above), Production Design (ages 17 and above); and for educators and cultural/community workers: Community Theater, Theater for Advocacy and Theater-In-Education.
