In honor of the late Francis Magalona, the musical Three Stars and a Sun will feature songs of the Pinoy rapper hailed as the “King of Pinoy Hip-Hop.”
This upcoming musical will be the closing presentation for the 47th season of Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA).
Three Stars and a Sun, featuring the legendary music of Francis M, will be staged in time for his 7th death anniversary in 2016.
This project comes on the heels of PETA's multiple re-runs of hit rock-comedy musical Rak of Aegis and modern restaging of the classic theater piece Noli at Fili Dekada Dos Mil.
PETA made the announcement a week after the Magalona family paid tribute to the late Francis Magalona on his birthday.
The rapper and former Eat Bulaga Dabarkads would have turned 51 years old last October 4.
In 2009, the Master Rapper was given a posthumous Presidential Medal of Merit "for his musical and artistic brilliance, his deep faith in the Filipino and his sense of national pride that continue to inspire us.”
Some of Francis M’s well-known songs include “Superproxy2k6,” “Mga Kababayan Ko,” “Kaleidoscope World,” “Cold Summer Nights,” “Ito Ang Gusto Ko,” and many others.
PETA's theatre production is titled Three Stars and a Sun, after his 1995 hit song from the album FreeMan.
It is expected to open during the first quarter of 2016.
For this show, PETA will transform the classic hits of the Pinoy rapper into a musical spectacle that talks about the youth, good governance, and nation building.
Cast members for the musical have not yet been chosen because PETA will hold auditions for the roles.
