This October, Theater Down South presents Stephen Sondheim’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. This hilarious musical farce first appeared in Broadway in the late 1960s and has since been realized on film and in a highly successful Broadway revival in the 1990s. This production of Forum also coincides with composer Sondheim’s 80th birthday, which is being celebrated worldwide with various productions of his works going onstage throughout the year
Two young actors make their Theater Down South debut in this show. DLSU-Taft freshman Jacob Kliatchko Gayanelo and U.P. Sophomore Carla Gonzalez will be featured in the roles of the lovers Hero and Philia in this musical farce. Carla is not entirely new to the company, being a product of many of its workshops and student productions while Jacob joins TDS for the very first time.
Both Carla and Jacob are residents of the South Metro area, as are most of the company’s other members. "It’s part of our company’s mandate to provide opportunities for actors in the South and to promote the growth of theater in this area," says director Michael Williams. "We hope of developing a theater tradition here for practitioners and audiences alike."
A Funny thing Happened on the Way to the Forum will be staged on October 2, 3, 8, 9, 24, 30. All shows are at 8:00 PM, except for Sunday shows, which will be at 3:00 PM.
