Gantimpala Theater holds auditions on June 11

The play Urbana at Felisa is one of the latest productions mounted by Gantimpala Theater Foundation.

Gantimpala Theater Foundation is holding a general audition for actors on June 11 (Monday), 4-8 p.m., at the Rehearsal Hall, Open Air Auditorium Building, Luneta (Rizal Park), Manila.

The audition is open to professional and aspiring actors and actresses. Bring a resume and 2 x 2 colored photograph.

Gantimpala Theater, formerly known as Bulwagang Gantimpala, is one of the original dramatic arts companies of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Its founding president and artistic director is Tony S. Espejo.

It was one of the resident companies of CCP for 10 years, where it experimented with plays that mirrored the life of the Filipino. When it transferred to the Manila Metropolitan Theater, it started to produce and stage the Four Classics: Ibong Adarna, Florante at Laura, Kanser (Noli Me Tangere) and El Filibusterismo. These stage productions have become important educational tools for high school students who are studying these Filipino epic poems and novels.

The theater company is celebrating its 30th season this year by staging, aside from the Four Classics, Katipunan by Bonifacio Ilagan, Taluktok by Leoncio P. Deriada, Ramona Reyes ng Forbes Park by Bienvenido Noriega Jr., and Bombita by Tony Perez.

Other productions in the lineup are Ang Pagong at Ang Matsing, a children’s musical; William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet; and Levi, the life of National Artist Levi Celerio, which will be celebrated through a grand musical-cum-tribute.
