Starting last Monday, April 2, the cable channel known as AXN Beyond was rebranded as beTV. Offering a fresh slate of light entertainment programming, the channel rebrands to beTV to reflect the broad, general entertainment service it delivers.
Headlining beTV’s premieres in April 2012 is the hilarious new sitcom Rob, created by and starring Rob Schneider. The comedian, whose mother is a half-Filipina, is best known for Deuce Bigalow and The Hot Chick movies.
In Rob, he plays out his real-life whirlwind romance and marriage to Mexican TV producer, Patricia Azarcoya Arce.
Schneider’s titular character Rob is a successful landscape architect with obsessive compulsive disorder. After a six-week romance, he marries Maggie (Claudia Bassols, Spain… on the Road Again), a much younger, beautiful and smart Mexican-American translator who is way out of his league.
After eloping to Las Vegas, the couple must break the news to Maggie’s over-protective and judgmental parents, Rosa (Diana Maria Riva, Our Family Wedding) and Fernando (Cheech Marin, Once Upon a Time in Mexico), that they are married. Shocked by the news, the family is skeptical of Maggie's choice for a husband, except her uncle Hector (Eugenio Derbez, Jack and Jill), the black sheep of the family, who immediately declares himself Rob's best friend.
A lifelong bachelor who has just become part of a tight-knit, boisterous and large Mexican-American family, Rob now has to contend with the many cultural differences and unhappiness over expectations that he hasn’t met. The in-laws think Rob is unsuitable for Maggie as he is insensitive, short, old, and has not provided the dream wedding that they have always wanted for their daughter.
From bungling his silly attempts at conversing with his in-laws, to accidentally wrecking the shrine to Maggie’s late grandfather to disastrous consequences with grandmother, Abuelita (Lupe Ontiveros, El Norte), Rob does what he can hoping that he will win over Maggie’s family, to live happily ever after with his true love.
Also debuting in April on beTV is I Get That A Lot, a reality special that sets up Hollywood celebrities in everyday jobs such as wait and sales staff, with hidden cameras capturing reactions of unsuspecting customers and passers-by. When approached by people who recognize them, the stars deny their real identities and dish out the signature line, "I get that a lot” right till the very end of each segment when the cameras are revealed.
Catch priceless and amusing reactions of the public spotting supermodel Heidi Klum working at a pizza parlour (picture above); Paris Hilton as a petrol kiosk service staff; rapper-actor Ice-T selling shoes; Survivor host Jeff Probst working a cash register; musician LeAnn Rimes waiting tables; singer-actress Jessica Simpson as a computer technician; style icon Tim Gunn behind the counter at a fast food joint; Pamela Anderson selling undergarments at Victoria's Secret; Jerry Springer serving at an Italian deli; as well as TV host and lifestyle expert Martha Stewart as a craft store employee!
In addition, audiences who have been following Supernatural will be able to continue to catch the seventh and latest season of the show. The supernatural-themed action drama series brings back the hunky duo of Jared Padalecki (House of Wax) and Jensen Ackles (Smallville) as demon hunting brothers Sam and Dean Winchester.
Last but not least, beTV viewers can catch up familiar friends, including the guy that everybody loves, Raymond Barone, a newspaper sports writer who takes nothing seriously in the popular sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, based on the real-life experiences and family of lead actor Ray Romano.
Also, relax to the heart-warming and touching sixth season of Touched by an Angel starring Roma Downey and Emmy-award winner Della Reese as angels on Earth helping people who are at the crossroads of their lives.
