Shawn Mendes will kick off his Illuminate album world tour here in Manila on Saturday, March 18, at the SM MOA Arena.
The 18-year-old singer-songwriter will play in 54 cities in Asia, Europe, and America.
He was recently named as Favorite Singer in the 2017 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.
Illuminate is Shawn’s follow up to the chart-topping Handwritten, which had the hit track “Stitches.”
Released last September, his sophomore album debuted at the top spot of the U.S. Billboard 200. Produced by Ed Sheeran’s collaborator Jake Gosling, Illuminate boasts a mix of heart-wrenching lyrics, powerful vocals, and catchy melodies—think Ed Sheeran meets early works by John Mayer. It has notable songs like “Mercy,” “Treat You Better,” “Three Empty Words,” and “Patience.”
Shawn goes all out in writing all the music in Illuminate, which showcases his maturity as a songwriter. The Canadian artist still had women and relationships as the main subjects of his pieces, but tracks like “Lights On” already discusses adult-themed subjects.
It is a departure from his first album Handwritten, which he released when he was only 16 years old, fresh off from becoming an Internet sensation with his six-second covers from Vine.
Over all, Illuminate tells stories of heartbreak in the guise of acoustic pop tunes.
Shawn, who made it to the Forbes list of “30 Under 30,” delivers and we can’t wait what he’ll come up with in the coming years.
