"The UFL Cup is an open competition that serves as a gateway for teams seeking a place in the UFL top flight competition which opens in January 2012. The teams have been divided into seven groups with the top two squads from each group advancing to the Round of 16. The two No. 3 teams with the best records will claim the remaining two Round of 16 berths.
"A parade of all 28 teams started at 2:30 p.m., followed by a brief opening ceremony officially ushering in the league's third season.
"In the first game, defending champion Global FC battled rock-solid Stallions in a keenly-awaited opening-day clash. Another match followed wherein Kaya FC collided with Team Schwarz in a Group D duel at the University of Makati pitch at 7 p.m.
"On October 15, Team Socceroo will face Loyola Meralco Sparks in the first game, which airs live on AKTV at 2pm. Kaya FC goes up against Victory Line-Diliman FC in the second match at 4pm also at Rizal Memorial Stadium."
