Cinemanila's inaugural Moonlight Series free outdoor cinema kicked off last Friday, January 27, 2012. Run in association with the Cinemanila International Film Festival Foundation, the Australian Embassy, the City of Taguig, and the Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation, the first of a series of evening outdoor film screenings lit up Activity Pod 1 on Bonifacio High Street with the Australian film Strictly Ballroom--the Oscar nominated Baz Lurhmann (Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge) indie hit of 1992. A local short, Save Me!, by animator Ramon Del Prado, was screened before the night's feature.
Present at the event were H.E. Ambassador Bill Tweddell of the Australian Embassy, Cinemanila Founding Director Amable "Tikoy" Aguiluz, and City of Taguig's Public Information Officer Atty. Darwin Icay. Guests brought food, drink, and family to the outdoor event, and screened the film from chairs and floor seating.
With 150 people in attendance and dozens more watching from the cafes and restaurants along High Street, the Moonlight Series sensation will continue for the coming months. The eagerly anticipated evening screenings were welcomed by Taguig City Government, Bonifacio Global City and Bonifacio High Street along with other sponsors, Jet Star, ANZ, The Peninsula Manila, Qantas and SKM.
Further screenings will take place on February 24, March 23, and April 20 in Bonifacio High Street's new park space, Central, with films from all over the world to be screened in BGC's newest modern and green space.
