The Philippines' leading TV station GMA Network stepped one notch higher as it bagged honors from the recently concluded 2012 Gandingan Awards—the 6th University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) Isko't Iska's Broadcast Choice Awards.
GMA banner newscast 24 Oras, anchored by the tandem of GMA News pillars Mike Enriquez and Mel Tiangco, was awarded as this year's Best News Program.
Longtime primetime weekend ratings frontrunner Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho was cited as Best Magazine Program, while GMA VP for News Programs and KMJS host Jessica Soho was recognized as Best Magazine Program Host.
After winning the Best Magazine Program Host award for five consecutive years, Soho was elevated to the Gandingan Hall of Fame Awardees, which already include the internationally acclaimed public affairs program I-Witness (Best Documentary Program) and multi-awarded documentarist Howie Severino (Best Documentarist).
Late night investigative program Reporter's Notebook was awarded as Best Investigative Program, while program host Jiggy Manicad was cited as Best Investigative Program Host. GMA-7's pioneering Saturday afternoon show Wish Ko Lang, in turn, won as Best Public Service Program.
Also stamping its class was local television's leading news channel GMA News TV - powered by the full roster of the formidable GMA News and Public Affairs organization—which was named as the Highly Commended TV Station.
Completing the Kapuso Network's golden harvest in this year's Gandingan Awards is Super Radyo DZBB 594 khz, GMA's flagship AM station, which won as Best AM station.
Now on its sixth year, the Gandingan Awards is organized annually by the UP Community Broadcasters' Society of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños.
