Thy Womb

Thy Womb was originally one of 14 short-listed movies in the running to be part of the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival. But by mid-June, it was announced that it failed to make it to the final cut.

Despite the setback, its director Brillante “Dante” Mendoza brought the film a few months later in various foreign film events, most notably the Venice International Film Festival where he and his film's leading lady, Nora Aunor, each won a special award from independent film critics.

And just this October, Thy Womb became an official entry in the MMFF after the withdrawal of an earlier entry due to time constraints.

In a statement sent to the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP.ph), Direk Dante enthused: “After several tries, I’m glad I’m given a chance to share my film with the Filipino audience during the Christmas season.

"It’s also very timely that our fellow Christian Pinoys can have a peek into Muslim culture especially now that the government is exerting all efforts to give peace a chance in Mindanao.”
