Shake Rattle & Roll 14: The Invasion

"It cannot be Christmas without Shake, Rattle & Roll! Ha-ha-ha!"

This is director Chito S. Roño’s definitive reason as to why he agreed to direct all three episodes of the 14th installment of the enduring local horror film franchise Shake, Rattle & Roll (SRR).

It would be remembered that last year, Regal Films matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde reportedly announced that Shake, Rattle & Roll 13 was the final chapter of the franchise.

Direk Chito says, "Sabi nila, last year na. Sabi ko, ‘Ha-ha-ha! Hindi!’ I convinced them to resurrect it!

"Kasi it was the only thing that we could work on na, for me, may goodwill na sa mga bata, may goodwill na sa mga tao.

"Parang kasi Shake, Rattle & Roll will always be your first choice or second choice na parang breaker mo siya if you’re going through a marathon of Christmas movies."

"Pamana"

"'Pamana' features a story about a set of relatives who just cannot get along."

Direk Chito adds, "They’re cousins of different levels from a very dysfunctional family and suddenly, they’re called together.

"Kasi may isang uncle nila na hindi nga nila masyadong kilala who left them money and something else. So there’s millions suddenly in their face but with certain conditions."

Loyal SRR fans will notice that the main characters of this episode—Quezon City mayor Herbert Bautista, Janice de Belen, and Arlene Muhlach—are the same actors who starred in the film franchise’s very first installment back in 1984. Herbert was in "Manananggal," Janice in "Pridyider," and Arlene in "Baso."

"Unwanted"

"Life and death in a mall! ’Yon na! Ha-ha-ha!"

That is how Direk Chito introduces the story of "Unwanted." In the episode, Lovi Poe and Vhong Navarro play a couple that is about to be engaged.

"Ipapakilala na nila ’yong sarili nila sa mga magulang nila," the filmmaker continues.

"'Tapos something mysterious happens on December 21. They just came by a mall to buy a gift for the parents of the character of Vhong. Parang wedding anniversary nila so may dinaanan silang pina-wrap na gift."

"Lost Command"

In "Lost Command," a battalion of soldiers goes on a treacherous mission to search for a group of military men who previously disappeared through unexplained circumstances in the middle of a mysterious jungle.
