With Pagpag, Siyam na Buhay being the first horror film for Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo, was there a time when they themselves experienced being spooked on the set?
Whether it’s pure coincidence or not, Daniel and Kathryn reveal that during the course of the movie’s filming, something eerie happened to both of them on the same night.
In the Metro Manila Film Fest entry Pagpag, the characters of the movie violate superstitions surrounding funerals. It is believed that one should not go directly home after visiting a wake at the risk of bringing home evil spirits. As a result, they incur the wrath of a malevolent and vengeful spirit. Taking a detour first before heading home is referred to as pagpag.

“Yung location namin, parang ang bad vibes–ang bigat–so bago umuwi nagpapagpag kami sa gas station.
"Once, hindi kami nakapagpagpag…may nangyari at the same time sa amin ni DJ,” says Kathryn, referring to her co-star Daniel.
After taking a shower that night, Kathryn used the blower in the bathroom to dry her hair. “Nung nakahiga na ako biglang nag-on yung blower. Tinawag ko sila mama…tapos tinext ko si DJ. May nangyari rin pala sa kanya at the same time,” she narrates.
At home, Daniel recalls he was about to go to his room when he thought he heard his friend whistling. “May mga kaibigan ako sa bahay nun…[tapos] parang narinig ko ginagaya yung sipol ng kaibigan ko. Ayokong sumigaw, kasi ayokong magtakbuhan,” says Daniel.
Uncanny as these events may seem, do they think these incidents had anything to do with the horror movie? Kathryn says, “Siguro dahil di kami nagpagpag. So after nun talagang nagpapagpag muna kami.”
