“Ibibigay sa akin yung number one!”
These were the words Vice Ganda uttered when asked about his movie Praybeyt Benjamin 2 being pitted against other Metro Manila Film Fest (MMFF) entries this year.
It will be recalled that The Unkabogable: Praybeyt Benjamin was not only the box office hit but the first ever Filipino film to break the P300-million mark back in 2011.
This was followed by another record-breaking box office success with Vice Ganda's MMFF entry, Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy, which garnered over P400 million in ticket sales.
“Kine-claim ko naman lagi yun. Wala namang masama kung ike-claim.
“Lagi kong kini-claim alam ko mahal ako ni Lord ibibigay sa akin yung number one.
“He always does. Every year yung kini-claim ko nagkakatotoo naman.
“We just work hard for the movie. We just enjoy the movie.
“We do our best to make it a very fun movie para ma-enjoy ng lahat ng tao,” Vice stated in a recent one-on-one interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
When asked how he feels to be competing against his BFF (Best Friends Forever) Kris Aquino, Vice revealed that the Queen of All Media is actually ready to settle for the number two spot for her MMFF entry Feng Shui 2.
Vice further disclosed: “Wala talaga kaming rivalry ni Kris.
“Si Kris, alam mo ba, nakakatawa kasi yung shooting ko ng Praybeyt Benjamin nandudun siya sa set kasi kasama ko si Bimby.
“Sabi pa nga niya, 'Sa first day, first movie natin Praybeyt Benjamin. Second day ang Feng Shui.'
“Tapos sabi niya, 'Let's work na mag-number one ang Praybeyt Benjamin. Number two na lang ang Feng Shui.'”
Kris's son James “Bimby” Yap happens to be the latest addition to the cast of Praybeyt Benjamin 2.
Is Kris really okay with their deal?
As for working closely with Bimby, Vice shared that they had no trouble establishing rapport since the child actor is already familiar with the box-office comedian.
But Vice added that the seven-year-old child performer proved to be a very “strict” co-star on the set of their film.
“Ok naman, relax naman siya, parang naglalaro lang.
“'Saka sobrang strict nun! Kakatukin ako nun sa dressing room, 'Tito Vice, what's taking you too long? Let's work na.'
“Siyempre 'di mo naman aawayin yung bata. Kaya magmamadali ka kasi baka magtantrums,” Vice said with a laugh.
