Vice Ganda's The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin is the topgrossing entry on Christmas Day, December 25.
This was revealed by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair and overall Metro Manila Film Fest head Francis Tolentino earlier today, December 26.
He also revealed that after Praybeyt Benjamin 2, the other topgrossing films are Feng Shui 2, My Big Bossing and Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2.
As of 1 pm today, December 26, the combined box-office gross of the eight official mainstream entries have reached over P180 million.
The other MMFF 2014 entries are Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo; English Only, Please; Muslim Magnum .357; and Shake, Rattle and Roll XV.
Now on its 40th edition, the MMFF will run from December 25 to January 7, 2015.
The head declined to disclose the official box-office figures of the MMFF 2014 entries.
“Ayaw namin mag-counter trending o mag-trending. Ayaw namin ma-influence ang taste ng moviegoers,” he was quoted as saying in an interview aired on ABS-CBN's TV Patrol.
He explained that provincial cinemas brought in P146 million on opening day of the MMFF.
"Kalahati nitong P146 [million], galing sa probinsiya."
The awarding ceremony is scheduled to take place tomorrow, December 27, at the PICC.
According to Mico del Rosario, AdProm manager of Star Cinema, Praybeyt Benjamin 2 "holds the distinction of the biggest first-day gross for a Filipino movie" while Feng Shui 2 "holds the distinction of the biggest first-day gross for any Filipno movie."
Meanwhile, the annual Parade of Stars took place last December 23 with major stars in attendance.
