Lotlot de Leon tearfully dedicates award to Nora Aunor; Kris Aquino reacts to Feng Shui 2 missing out on awards


English Only, Please lead stars Derek Ramsay and Jennylyn Mercado won the Best Actor and Actress awards at the 40th Metro Manila Film Fest.

Meanwhile, Lotlot de Leon and Joey Marquez of Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2 brought home the Best Supporting Actor and Actress awards during the said Gabi ng Parangal held at the PICC Plenary Hall.

Jennylyn and Lotlot cried when they received their acting awards.

Lotlot tearfully said it was her first time to receive an acting award. The GMA-7 actress offered this acting recognition to her children.

“Inaalay ko po ‘to sa pamilya ko lalo na po sa mga anak ko.

“Sa apat kay Janine, kay Jessica, kay Diego at kay Maxene.

“Mga inspirasyon ko kayo mga anak, kaya talagang nagpapakasipag si mama.

“Pasensya na po ah, first time kong makareceive ng award.”

She also thanked her parents: seasoned actor Christopher de Leon and Superstar Nora Aunor.

“Lalong lalo na po sa mga magulang ko, kay Daddy Boyet.

“At sa nag-iisang superstar ng buhay ko, kay Nora Aunor.

“Maraming maraming salamat sa inyo Ma, Daddy.

“Para po sa inyo ‘to.

“Sana po proud kayo sa ‘kin.”


JENNYLYN WINS FOR ROM-COM. Meanwhile, another source witnessed how Jennylyn shed tears when she went backstage after receiving her trophy for the romantic comedy English Only, Please.

In her speech, MMFF Best Actress Jennylyn told the crowd: “Nakupo, ay grabe! Hinihingal na ‘ko.

“Maraming maraming salamat.

“Lord, magandang Christmas gift ito, thank you po.

“Sa lahat po ng bumubuo ng English Only Please, maraming salamat.

“Atty. Joji [Alonso, producer], sa pagbibigay po ng tiwala sa ‘kin, maraming maraming salamat po.

“For pushing me so hard para gawin ko ‘tong pelikulang ito, thank you so much my manager, Tita Becky [Aguila].

“Ang napakapatient at napakabrilliant at napakabait talaga na direktor, Direk Dan [Villegas].

“Ang aming napakagaling na writer, Tonet [Jadaone], maraming maraming salamat.

“Sa lahat ng bumubuo ng English Only Please, sa aking co-actors.

“Si Derek [Ramsay], si Cai [Cortez], ang aking bestfriend [sa movie].

“Sa family ko, kay Jazz, sa aking anak, for being my constant inspiration.

“Sa aking mga fans, sa mga supporters po na nandito, mahal ko kayo, salamat po.

“Sa lahat ng bumubuo ng Metro Manila Film Festival, maraming maraming salamat po, mahal ko kayo.”

However, Joey Marquez and Derek Ramsay weren’t able to make it to the Awards Night.

Jennylyn received the Best Actor award in behalf of Derek and delivered his speech.

“I would like to apologize for not being here to accept this prestigious award.

“Alam niyo naman, traffic sa EDSA.

“First, thank you Jen for accepting this award on my behalf.

“This movie would not have been a success without Jen’s friendship, professionalism and abundant talent.

“I’d like to thank our brilliant director for his skilled leadership and the writers for coming up with such an amazing script.

“Thank you, Atty. Joji for giving me this opportunity, mahusay kayong lahat.

“I’d like to thank all my fans for always supporting me.

“Thank you to my family for whom I draw my strength and inspiration.

“Love you all very much, Joji my manager, kasama ka ‘don.

“Lastly, to MMFF, thank you for this award and for its dedication in promoting the Filipino movie industry.

“Let’s all continue to promote and celebrate local talent.”

Derek bested other contenders in the Best Actor category: Coco Martin for Feng Shui and Dingdong Dantes for Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2.


KRIS CONTENT WITH BOX-OFFICE RETURNS. Kris Aquino, who hosted the awards night with Edu Manzano, congratulated Derek on stage and consoled her Feng Shui co-star Coco.

Their horror movie, Feng Shui 2, did not receive any award during the Gabi ng Parangal but it emerged as the second highest-grossing MMFF entry on opening day, December 25.
