MMFF 2014 entries earn P949 million in 12 days

The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin, starring Vice Ganda and Alex Gonzaga (upper left frame), is still the top-grossing entry of MMFF 2014. The other films leading in the box-office are Feng Shui 2, My Big Bossing and English Only Please.

The eight official entries of the 40th Metro Manila Film Festival have already earned P949 million nationwide as of January 5, 2015.

This was revealed by Metro Manila Development Authority and MMFF Overall chairperson Francis Tolentino in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

This figure is much higher compared to the same period last year when the MMFF 2013 entries earned P936 million.

The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin, starring Vice Ganda and Richard Yap, is still the top-grossing entry of the 40th MMFF.

This comedy film was followed by the Kris Aquino-Coco Martin horror film Feng Shui 2 as well as the Vic Sotto-Ryzza Mae Dizon three-part movie My Big Bossing.

The romantic comedy of Derek Ramsay and Jennylyn Mercado, English Only Please, is still the No. 4 highest-grossing MMFF entry.

Last January 1, it was reported that English Only Please was able to overtake the box-office earnings of Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2.

Interest in the rom-com increased after the film earned for Derek and Jennylyn their trophies as Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively.

Directed by Dan Villegas, English Only Please also bagged the awards for Best Screenplay, Best Original Story, and Best Editor.
