Kris Aquino says she had a harmonious working relationship with Derek Ramsay, her leading man in the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival entry All You Need is Pag-ibig.
Prior to this, Derek made a cameo appearance in Kris’s movie, Etiquette for Mistresses.
The TV host-actress gladly told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the press about her working relationship with Derek during her solo press conference held at her house in Green Meadows, Quezon City.
“Alam mo, kasi super nagkasundo kami. Chill na chill lang talaga.
“Si Derek kasi, pakainin mo lang talaga.”
Kris recalled a funny story that happened with Derek during their shooting.
“He flew in from Coron, naglaro siya ng golf sa Sta. Elena, four hours na nagdrive para umabot diyan sa revolving restaurant.
“Tapos noong dumating siya, sinabing stand by muna kasi kinukunan ako, tapos hindi siya in-offeran ng food!
“Tapos sinabi niya na punta na lang muna siya sa car niya, tumayo talaga ako tapos sabi ko, ‘What do you want? You order.’
“Ayun, happy na siya. Ang sweet, he had the best intention.”
Kris then revealed that Derek gave her a painting as a gift. “I’m sure sikat yung artist na yan. Meron siyang painting na binigay tapos pinakita niya sa akin na ‘It’s my gift for you.’
“E, ang lungkot lungkot noong babae [sa painting]. sabi ko, “Derek, you’re supposed to give me a happy girl. Kasi if you give me someone sad, for the rest of my life magiging sad!’"
DR. LOVE. During the press conference, Kris promised that All You Need is Pag-ibig is a fun treat for moviegoers and she even compared it to the Hollywood movie Love Actually, which features an ensemble cast.
“Actually kasi, siyempre mas na-e-excite ako doon sa… my super-duper favorite talagang love story movie of all time was yung Love Actually and I think nahigitan nito.
“Kasi di ba yon, multi-generational love story and hindi mo alam paano sila na-connect-connect sa isa’t isa and you really feel good after watching it.
“And then, ito ngayon, the few scenes that I was able to watch, because nag-dub ako and because siyempre dahil stage mother ako, gusto kong makita yung mga eksena ni Bimb, ano siya…”
Kris believes that AYNIP director Antoinette Jadaone is the strength of the film.
“Si Direk Tonette kasi, she speaks the language of today and I think na napapakita niya na espesyal is that it happens to all of us and yet she does it in a cinematic way."
BEAUTY OF PALAWAN. Many scenes of this MMFF 2015 were shot in Coron, Palawan.
“The majority of my scenes talaga were shot in Coron," disclosed Kris. "Ang tagal. Six nights akong nandoon na na-miss ko yung mga anak ko, pero dun ako napa-proud din kasi, I think this is the only movie now in the festival that will be able to highlight yung scenic spots natin talaga.
“Kasi yung sakripisyo naman na ginawa ni Derek, na alam ko 30 times siyang pinag-dive ng 25 feet kasi hindi ako marunong mag-swim so siya na lang, tapos makikita mo talaga lahat ng fish na pumapalibot sa kanya tapos mag-pa-part… Ang ganda!
“Tapos si Kim and Xian, nagpunta doon sa Kayangan Lake. Basta kapag napanood niyo, mafe-feel niyo na ang ganda-ganda ng Pilipinas and what a perfect setting."
Kris then describe her character, a TV host who is named Love.
“Kasi briefly lang, kaya ako nagpunta doon kasi I needed to find myself again and doon ko na nahanap ang sarili ko.
“Kaya nawalan ako ng boses kasi nagstart yung movie with a breakdown. It was parallel to my life.
“She, although hindi siya morning show host, she’s a late night show host, who hosts 'Dear Pag-ibig,' kumbaga ito si Dr. Love na TV version and for 15 years siya nagbibigay ng love advice.
“But in those 15 years, siya mismo never niyang na-experience na mahalin siya until napuno na siya at sinabi niya na, ‘Wala na akong pin-roblema kundi yung problema niyo sa pag-ibig. Ngayon naman, ayoko na. Gusto ko naman bigyan ng pagkakataon yung sarili ko na makahanap ng pag-ibig ko.”
DEALING WITH PRESSURE. When asked if Kris still feels pressure about competing with other entries in the annual film festival, she answered, “Hindi, kasi masaya to be the underdog.
“Kasi like English, Only Please, people have very very small expectations about it but I’m working with people with track record.
“Yung kay Direk Tonette kasi di ba? That Thing Called Tadhana, You’re My Boss…
Sana ito yung pangatlo.
“Tapos siyempre, huwag natin kakalimutan na mas nakilala yung trabaho niya dahil sa On The Wings of Love.
“So, alam ko na this project is not about me, not about the stars, it’s really the showcase project of our director as it should be.”
