According to Regal Entertainment, its family-oriented romantic comedy My Kuya's Wedding grossed P3.7 million when it opened in theaters nationwide last August 29. This Topel Lee-directed film is the launching movie of young star Maja Salvador.
"Maja has made it!" says Regal Entertainment executive producer Mother Lily Monteverde. "We at Regal are all so happy with the good first-day showing of My Kuya's Wedding. It's a very big achievement for a young and a relatively new star carrying the movie. This is Maja's first lead role. She is just a beginner. We are all glad. We are so proud of her."
My Kuya's Wedding also got a "B" rating from the Cinema Evaluation Board. This General Patronage (GP) movie features an all-star cast composed of Maja Salvador, Ryan Agoncillo, Pauleen Luna, Jason Abalos, Dominic Ochoa, Say Alonzo, Frank Garcia, Ethel Booba, Janus del Prado, Ryan Yllana, IC Mendoza, and many more.
Among those who attended the premiere night were Bong Revilla, Phillip Salvador, Senator Loren Legarda, and Judy Ann Santos.
Maja's co-artists at ABS-CBN also came to support her launching movie. Among them were Gerald Anderson, Matt Evans, Melissa Ricks, and Denise Laurel. Executives and directors from rival networks GMA-7 and ABS-CBN also sat side by side and enjoyed the movie, such as GMA Films Annette Gozon-Abrogar with her husband Lito, ABS-CBN business unit head Deo Endrinal and ABS-CBN directors Cathy Garcia-Molina, Trina Dayrit, Erick Salud and others.
"We couldn't have done all these without the help of many people," says Mother Lily. "A big thank you goes out to the stars and staff and crew, director Topel Lee, writer Allan Tijamo, all the stars and celebrities who came to our premiere night, Malou Choa-Fagar and Eat Bulaga, and especially to the press people and both networks ABS-CBN and GMA-7 who supported Regal in all aspects from production to promo."
In connection with the impressive performance of My Kuya's Wedding, Mother Lily announces that she will be giving young stars their own launching films in the future. These lucky stars include Jenica Garcia, Mart Escudero, and Lovi Poe.
My Kuya's Wedding is now showing in theaters nationwide.
