Maricel Soriano might have lost the opportunity to be seen once again on television but she is given another chance to star on the big screen.
Vice Ganda is one step closer to attaining one of his showbiz dreams — getting slapped by the one and only Diamond Star Maricel. The comedian is set to topbill a film titled Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy, wherein he plays the four different aforementioned characters. Maricel will reportedly play Vice’s mother in the movie.
“Dream ko masampal ni Maricel Soriano. Di ba, kumpleto na yung pagiging artista ko 'pag masampal ako ni Maricel Soriano? Sa movie lang ah, hindi sa totoong buhay,” Vice jokingly said in an interview recently with ABS-CBN News.
The movie, which is slated to start filming this month, is Maricel’s first major movie project in 2013 after a brief hiatus from filmmaking. Her last movie was in 2011 when she starred in Yesterday Today Tomorrow along with Gabby Concepcion. She bagged the Best Actress Award in the Metro Manila Film Fest that year because of her role in the said drama film.
The versatile actress, who’s known for her dramatic prowess, is no stranger to comedic roles. Maricel honed her skills in comedy as early as the ‘70s and ‘80s in John En Marsha and played the amusing Mary Magtanggol in Kaya ni Mister, Kaya ni Misis in the late ‘90s.
“Sobrang masayang masaya ako dito sa paparating na project ko kasi kasama ko si Inay Maria. E, noon ko pa yun wini-wish, e," said a grateful Vice Ganda.
The announcement of the new movie comes in the heels of a recent controversy involving the Diamond Star. Maricel was pulled out from Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin, ABS-CBN's upcoming teleserye offering starring heartthrob Gerald Anderson. PEP.ph previously reported that Maricel had shouted at Gerald while on the set of their show.

ABS-CBN released an official statement stating that due to an unfortunate incident that happened between the two leads on the first taping day, it has been agreed upon by the managers of both parties to pull out the Diamond star from the project. It was later announced that Dawn Zulueta will take over the role.
However, Vice Ganda was quick to defend Maricel regarding the recent controversy.
"Lahat naman tayo, lahat naman ng tao, marami pang pagkakataong darating pa. Hindi naman natatapos ang lahat sa isang pangyayari lang."
