Erik Matti's action thriller On the Job (OTJ) received a standing ovation during its premiere at the 66th Cannes Film Festival.
Lead stars Piolo Pascual, Gerald Anderson, Rayver Cruz and Joel Torre attended the screening held in France last May 24 (Paris time).
Directed by Erik Matti, On the Job (OTJ) is one of the 21 films featured in the Directors Fortnight section of Cannes.
Piolo is cast as an NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) agent while Gerald plays an inmate temporarily released from prison to become a contract killer for corrupt politicians.
OTJ also stars Shaina Magdayao, Joel Torre, Michael de Mesa, and Angel Aquino.
It is co-produced by Reality Entertainment and Star Cinema.
Through her Twitter account, Star Magic handler Nhila Mallari shared a photo of the lead stars who attended the world premiere.
Her photo had this caption: "On the Job screening at Festival de Cannes. No empty seats. Audience stood up for 2 minutes during the credits. Congratulations!"
A movie review published in screendaily.com described On The Job
as "a boisterous, pacy thriller inspired by true events from the lawless streets of the Philippines."
The review also pointed out: "A stellar Filipino cast and the explosive subject matter will make this essential viewing on its home territory. Well Go’s decision to purchase US rights confirms the film’s potential to make an impression internationally although the blandly uninviting title does it no favours."
Well Go USA has acquired all North American rights to On The Job. According to indiewire.com, the company has plans to release OTJ in the United States in the fall.
