Starting Over Again grosses P375 million in three weeks; Piolo Pascual admits that he almost gave up on his career

Starting Over Again has already earned P375 million in the box-office as of March 4, 2014.

This was announced by Star Cinema during the victory party held last night, March 4, at the 9501 restaurant at the ABS-CBN compound. International box-office sales are not included in this figure.

Directed by Olivia Lamasan, the movie has been screening in Philippine cinemas for the past three weeks.

The thanksgiving party was attended by ABS-CBN Chairman Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III, ABS-CBN President and CEO Charo Santos-Concio, Star Cinema head Malou Santos, as well as the cast members of the movie.

Starting Over Again stars Iza Calzado, Piolo Pascual, and Toni Gonzaga

In his speech, lead actor Piolo Pascual said he was shocked to learn about the success of Starting Over Again in the box-office.

"Nung lumabas po na ganun kalaki ang kinita ng pelikula, hindi talaga ako makapaniwala because back during my time, maka P100 million ka lang, okay ka na, nakatawid ka na.

"For the movie to make P100 million in three days, it was so overwhelming for me. I just never thought na it could still happen. Maraming maraming salamat po."

Starting Over Again is on track to surpass the P387 million box-office gross of the John Lloyd Cruz-Sarah Geronimo movie It Takes a Man and a Woman.

It remains to be seen if Starting Over Again will be able to beat the records of Metro Manila Film Fest entries such as Sisterakas (which earned P393 million) or Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy (which earned P435 million).

INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT. The support for the movie has also extended abroad.

Piolo, who attended the international premiere in the United States along with Toni Gonzaga, narrated, "Mas mahirap kasi sa America kasi bumibiyahe ang mga tao. Hindi naman as accessible dito sa atin. Doon, tatlong oras, apat na oras [bago makarating sa sinehan]."

Toni explained, "There are 3,000 cinemas all over the States and 52 lang ang naibigay sa amin. With that, in three days, umabot siya ng $650,000."

This translates to approximately P29,250,000 pesos.

The Kapamilya actor added, "This would open doors para sa mga susunod na pelikula na ilalabas natin dun."

In their opinion, what is the secret behind the phenomenal success of Starting Over Again?

"It's really the story. More than the actors, it's really the story," Toni pointed out.

"Tumayo ang pelikula na ito dahil sa istorya niya...dahil matapang siya, dahil inilahad niya ang nangyayari sa totong buhay at hindi siya expected na ending."

Are they open to doing a sequel of the movie?

Do they want to be paired again in another project?

EMOTIONAL PIOLO. While giving his speech during the victory party, Piolo became emotional. Why is that?

"Oo, kasi roller coaster ang pinagdaanan ko. Kumbaga, binigay ko na lang kasi for me, hindi ko na alam kung saan ako pupulutin after nito.

"Hindi naman na ako bata. With my teamup wih Tin [referring to Toni], quotang-quota na ako.

"Talagang I didn't want to say anything, hindi ko kaya magsalita. "But I had to because of so much humility, I guess, para sa lahat.

Toni interjected, "See? Sabi ni God, it's not over until I say it's over."

Piolo continued, "Natutuwa ako kay Tin kasi ang joke niya, umabot na ako kay Xyriel [Manabat], nakasama ko na siya sa pelikula so we almost gave up."

He is referring to Xyriel, the child star who eight years old when they were co-stars in the 2012 movie 24/7 in Love.

The heartthrob said about his latest movie with Toni, "We didn't think it would be this big. We didn't think na it was gonna be this big. Ako, I was in shock. This is my biggest movie."

ON HOME SWEETIE HOME. When asked if Piolo is appearing as a guest in the sitcom Home Sweetie Home, he revealed, "Nag-guest ako, diretso ako from the airport. Diretso ako sa taping."

Last February 20, John Lloyd Cruz had a minor bike accident in Tarlac while shooting for ABS-CBN's new station ID.

Will Piolo serve as John Lloyd Cruz's replacement in the sitcom since Lloydie is still recuperating from his bike accident?

"I don't think anybody can replace anybody," Toni said emphatically. "Lagi ko sinasabi yun na Piolo cannot replace John Lloyd and John Lloyd cannot replace Piolo.

"Si Piolo may sariling trademark na sa kanya."

Piolo added, "I did the guesting for Tin and Lloydie pero not to replace him, hindi kailangan."

When will Lloydie return to Home Sweetie Home?

"That I'm not really sure kasi depende yun sa healing process," said Toni.
