Jessy Mendiola impressed by the way John Lloyd Cruz portrayed his developmentally delayed character

Jessy Mendiola admits she got nervous during her first shooting day with movie co-star John Lloyd Cruz: “Sobrang bait niya [behind the camera]. Kinabahan ako nung unang shooting day.

After taking a break for a few months, Jessy Mendiola says she’s back to shooting for her upcoming movie with John Lloyd Cruz under Star Cinema.

In a recent interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), the 21-year-old actress shared that they encountered a short delay due to script revisions of The Trial.

“Mag-start na ulit kami this June. Mas pinaganda nila.

“Mas gusto nila Tita Malou [Santos, head of Star Cinema] na mapag-aralan yung script kasi very different siya from other films.

“Hindi siya totally romantic comedy. Para siyang advocacy din. So thriller-romance-suspense [ang theme].”

Asked about working with John Lloyd, Jessy said she admires how easily he internalized his developmentally delayed character in the movie.

“Sobrang bait niya [behind the camera].

“Kinabahan ako nung unang shooting day.

No lines. Pero ang galing niya. Kaya nakakatuwa rin.”

With such a talented co-star, Jessy added that she’s challenged to give her best performance in this project.

With any luck, Jessy hopes that this movie will pave the way for her to land her first acting award.

“Kaya sabi nila, ‘Galingan mo dito. Malay mo manalo ka kahit Best Supporting Actress.’

“So sana,” she concluded.
