The Film Development Council of the Philippines is set to launch the World Premieres Film Festival on Sunday (June 29) with a red carpet opening ceremony at One Esplanade in the SM Complex in Pasay City. The screening of some 40 festival films from twenty seven countries will run from July 2 to July 8 at selected SM Cinemas in Metro Manila.
The main competition of the festival will feature films from Brazil, Ecuador, Iran, Spain, Turkey, and the Philippines, here the films shall compete for awards pertaining to best picture and the like. It will have a section, Cine Verde or “green cinema” dedicated to films with environmental concerns and vying for the Cine Verde Award for Best Environmental Feature.
Other sections in the festival are the Euroview Section featuring films from European countries, the Ibero-America Section featuring films from Latin states, and the ASEAN Skies Section featuring films from ASEAN member states.
Gala Premieres for the main competition films are to take place on Monday (June 30) and Tuesday (July 1) at the SM Megamall. The directors of the films will be present and will conduct a short Q&A session. These premieres are open to the public and the international community.
On Tuesday (July 2), the festival Awards Night & Closing Ceremony will be held at the Centerstage of SM Mall of Asia at 7pm. Winners will be awarded and honors bestowed prior to a special screening of the Grand Festival Prize winner. The awards ceremony and special screening is open to the public, on a first come first serve basis.
The full theatrical festival run will begin on July 2 until July 8 at SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM North Edsa, SM Sta. Mesa, and SM Manila. All screenings will be shown at regular mall admission prices. Students, upon presentation of a valid ID will be given a discount.
