Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan chosen as Philippine entry to the Oscars

Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan is the Philippine entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 87th Academy Awards. In this four-hour Lav Diaz film, Sid Lucero (left) portrays Fabian, a disgruntled Law student who becomes a killer. Archie Alemania's character (right frame) is imprisoned for the crime that Fabian committed.


Ang critically-acclaimed film ni Lav Diaz na Norte, Hangganan Ng Kasaysayan (Norte, The End of History) ay ang official Philippine entry para sa Best Foreign Language Film category sa 87th Academy Awards or the Oscars.

Kinumpirma ng director-general ng Film Academy of the Philippines na si Leo Martinez ang pagkakapili ng special committee sa four-hour film ni Diaz noong Miyerkules, September 24.


Binubuo ang special committee nina Robert Arevalo, Laurice Guillen, Jun Urbano, William Mayo, Joe Carreon, Gina Alajar at Jess Navarro.


“We made the announcement to finally end all speculations,” ani Martinez.


Ang producer ng Norte na si Raymond Lee (now known as Moira) ay pinost sa kanyang Facebook page ang tungkol pagkakapili ng pelikula nila. Pinost niya ang #oscars.


Mula sa panulat nila Lav Diaz at Rody Vera, tampok sa Norte sina Sid Lucero, Archie Alemania, Angeli Bayani, Mailes Kanapi, Soliman Cruz, Hazel Orencio at Mae Paner.


Si Sid ay gumanap bilang si Fabian, isang Law student na nakapatay ng dalawang tao. Ang napagbintangan na gumawa ng krimen ay si Joaquin (played by Archie Alemania). Dahil nakulong ang asawa niya, si Eliza (played by Angeli Bayani) ay gumawa ng paraan upang suportahan ang kanilang dalawang anak.


Ang epic film ni Lav ay maituturing na “most celebrated Filipino film” noong nakaraang taon.


Nag-world premiere ito sa Cannes Film Festival at nakatanggap ng rave reviews mula sa New York Times, The Guardian, Film Comment at iba pa.


Napasama ang Norte sa ilang listahan of Best Films of 2013 kaya ito ang napili ng FAP dahil nakarating na ito sa ilang international film festivals tulad ng Cannes, Toronto International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, San Diego Asian Film Festival, Nuremberg International Human Rights Film Festival, at International Cinephile Society Awards.

Dito sa Pilipinas, napanalunan nito ang Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Screenplay at Best Cinematography mula sa Gawad Urian Awards ng Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino.

Itinanghal rin na best director si Lav sa Cinemanila International Film Festival.
