Ang Death of Nintendo, co-produced ng Black Sheep and IndieFlip, ay magkakaroon ng world premiere sa Generation Kplus category ng Berlinale.
Ayon sa ABS-CBN, Death of Nintendo "takes us into the colorful pop-culture world of these four 13-year old friends, back in the days when video games were still a novelty.
"Tomboy Mimaw and her friends Paolo, Kachi and Gilligan live lives that revolve around Nintendo. Challenging their enjoyment is the climate-changing eruption of Mt. Pinatubo which is causing a series of earthquakes and nationwide blackouts, preventing the friends from engaging in their number one activity.
"To add to the emotional melee, the friends begin to wrestle with new dilemmas – puppy love, circumcision and other teenage horror stories."
Bida rito sina Noel Comia Jr., Kim Chloie Oquendo, Jiggerfelip Sementilla, John Vincent Servilla, Moi Bien, Nikki Valdez, Angelina Kanapi, Jude Matthew Servilla, Elijah Alejo, Cayden Williams, at Agot Isidro.
His most recent feature, Smaller and Smaller Circles, based on the best-selling Filipino crime novel by F.H. Batacan, premiered at the 2017 Busan Film Festival.
Filipiñana will be in the Berlinale shorts section.
According to the website Kickstarter: "Filipiñana is a film written and directed by Rafael Manuel for the London Film School. It was shot on location in various country clubs and golf courses in the Philippines in May 2019. The film is about a tee-girl named Isabel. Tee-girls spend the whole day sitting on a stool barely a foot above the dirt ground teeing up golf balls for golfers to hit as they practice swinging their steel clubs barely inches away from the tee-girls' faces. Filipiñana explores themes of exploitation and marginalization within hierarchical structures, using the golf course setting as a microcosm for Philippine society. The film focuses primarily on the power distance exercised by women on women within this social milieu."
Window Boy Would Also Like to Have a Submarine will participate in the Berlinale Forum. Heading the cast are Daniel Quiroga, Inés Bortagaray, and Noli Tobol.
Ayon sa IMDB: "Aboard a cruise ship that runs through southern Latin America, a young sailor discovers a corridor that mysteriously leads into an apartment in Montevideo, Uruguay. Meanwhile, thousands of miles away, in a small rural village in the Philippines, a group of farmers seems to have found an old abandoned shed in the expanse of the valley, to which they attribute supernatural powers."
Ang entry naman ng bansang Germany sa Encounters section ng Berlinale ay isang rock musical set in present-day Manila titled Orphea. Ito ay base sa myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. This is directed by Kluge of Germany and Khavn dela Cruz of the Philippines. Kasama sa Orphea ang Filipino performance artist na si Ian Madrigal and Germany’s Lilith Stangenberg.
Narito ang synopsis ng Orphea, according to Cine Europa: "Reinvents the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice as a rock musical set in a grotesque and surreal interpretation of today’s Manila."
Ang Boldstar ni Antoinette Jadaone ay isa sa Berlinale co-production market selections. Na-conceptualize ito noong 2016 at naka-schedule nang simulan ang shooting ngayong late 2020. Starring Angelica Panganiban, Boldstar is about the long-forgotten heydays of bold stars or soft porn genre actresses in Philippine cinema.
