The team-up of Jameson Blake and Joao Constancia is the latest to join the bandwagon of BL projects in the Philippines.

The two are starring in My Lockdown Romance, a full-length movie produced by Star Cinema and directed by Bobby Bonifacio, Jr.

The film was first announced in the third quarter of 2020, much to the excitement of the supporters of Jameson and Joao, and fans of the BL genre.

Based on social media reactions, fans were excited that Jameson and Joao would be starring in a BL project, more so that they were being paired with each other.

In the virtual press launch of the movie last November 2, 2020, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked both Jameson and Joao if they are aware of the fans' reaction to their project.

Jameson said, “For me, I’m happy din kasi I know they’re happy. I’m seeing tweets ever since my first movie, 2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten. It was also coming-of-age din.

“And I’m seeing some fans tweeting and commenting even waiting for a movie if I’ll do something similar to that. I felt excited for them.”

2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten was Jameson’s first movie shown in 2017, with Khalil Ramos and Ethan Salvador as his co-stars. Although the movie did not fall under the BL genre, it featured a coming-of-age story of a guy (Khalil) who finds company in two brothers (Jameson and Ethan). He then realizes he likes the other brother (Ethan).

Like Jameson, Joao was also happy with his fans’ feedback, “I have read some tweets, comments about our fans reacting to our movie, and I’m really happy na excited sila para sa akin, sa amin.

“I’m really happy po because this is a new coming-of-age story and something that we can share with them po.”

In My Lockdown Romance, Jameson and Joao play estranged friends who reconnect during the lockdown.

Jameson’s character had hidden feelings for Joao’s character back in college, and these feelings are reignited upon their reconnection.

During the presscon, Jameson and Joao were both asked by a reporter if they will have intimate scenes in the movie.

Jameson only answered with a smile, “Right now, it’s better for everyone to watch the movie and find out.”

As a follow-up question, both actors were asked if they are willing to do kissing scenes with fellow male actors in other movies of the same genre.

Jameson said, “For me, personally, if I’m in a different project, it depends on the script. I actually don’t mind.

“As an actor, we have to actually do things like that and we’re playing a role.

“Yeah, okay lang naman sa akin. It depends on the project, like 2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten.”

Jameson was able to do edgy scenes—such as butt exposure while m*sturbating—for 2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten.

Joao, like Jameson, is also willing to do a kissing scene with a male actor for a project.

He answered, “Ako naman po, I’m willing to do it po naman. As an actor, if it’s essential for the story or the movie, I’m willing to do it.”

My Lockdown Romance is set to premiere on streaming platforms starting November 13, 2020.

It can be purchased for PHP150 with several Cinexpress channels to choose from: KTX.ph (ktx.ph), iWant TFC (tfc.tv), Channel 190 and Channel 290 for HD on Cignal PPV (my.cignal.tv), and channel 158 and channel 258 for HD on Sky Cable PPV (mysky.com.ph).

DIFFERENCE FROM OTHER BL PROJECTS

Although My Lockdown Romance is the first BL movie in the Philippines, it is inevitable for viewers to compare it to BL digital series.

PEP.ph asked Jameson and Joao during the presscon how different will their movie be?

Jameson, who was first to answer, said, “I can say na mas light siya siguro. Mas cute in some way.

“It could be in the same category, but we can always bring something different.”

Joao agreed with Jameson’s answer.

He said “It’s light, fun, but it’s filled with feelings talaga and it’s super relatable to all of us. The movie, the story setting is within what’s happening to us right now.”

Director Bobby Bonifacio further talked about the leads' chemistry and the story's "relatability."

He said, “Kasi, siyempre, hindi maiiwasan na there would be some similarities to the same themes, di ba, of movies?

“Pero I guess, each film, each project has something unique to offer and iyong sa amin is iyong number one, iyong chemistry na ibinigay ni Jameson at Joao sa isa’t isa.

“The format of the movie, makikita niyo naman kapag pinanood niyo, iningatan namin na hindi lumampas sa format na iyon and it’s something na kabit na kabit sa real-life situations ng mga tao.

“Ang lakas ng relatability niya, ang dami from all walks of life, with different relationships ng mga tao, kakabit dito sa kuwento nilang dalawa.”
