Paolo Gumabao finds it easier to do sensual and steamy scenes with male partners than women.
He candidly talks about this as he and Silip Sa Apoy co-star Angeli Khang sit down with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) for an upcoming PEP Spotlight interview.
Paolo declares, “Mas madali mag-eksena sa lalaki kaysa sa babae.”
He then explains, “Kasi kapag lalaki, parang wala ka lang paki, e. Hahaha! Parang bahala na, parehas naman kayong lalaki. So lahat ng gawin mo okay lang yun.
“Pero pagdating kasi sa girl, there’s this feeling na you have to be more careful. You have to be more delicate.”
He recognizes that sensual scenes come with a huge responsibility to take care of one's scene partner.
Paolo adds, “Siyempre, andun iyong I don’t want to be disrespectful towards my co-artists, lalo na kapag babae.
“So, for me, pagdating sa mga sexy scenes, lalaki man iyan o babae, it’s all the same.
“It’s just that iyong mahirap lang talaga kapag sa babae, kailangan mong alalayan.
“Siyempre, sometimes, may mga gusto kang gawin na parang feeling mo pasok sa eksena, pero you have to be careful or ask muna kung okay lang kay girl artist.
“In that case, I ask Angeli kung okay lang bang ganito.”
Angeli and Paolo did several intimate scenes for their movie Silip sa Apoy, which will start streaming on January 28, 2022 on Vivamax.
The movie is directed by Mac Alejandre and written by Ricky Lee.
Paolo then goes on to describe his experience in doing intimate scenes with male co-stars.
“Kapag sa lalaki iyong kaeksena, walang tanong tanong, kung ano gawin ko okay lang.
“Kunyari ayaw niya ginawa ko, e, di wala, magsumbong siya sa director, okay lang, hahaha,” he quips.
Paolo was also able to do intimate scenes with male co-stars in the series Mga Batang Poz (2019) and the movies Lockdown (2021) and Sisid (2022).
ANGELI SAYS PAOLO IS A GENTLEMAN
For Angeli's part, she says that she enjoyed working with Paolo, whom she describes as a gentleman.
“Una pa lang sa set, talagang iyong sinasabihan pa lang kami ni Direk kung anong gusto niyang eksena, kinukuhanan niya ako ng upuan para lang for me to feel comfortable.
“Bawat eksena, kinakausap niya ako.”
A moment that stands out for Angeli is when Paolo helped motivate her for a heavy scene.
She says, “Noong crying scene na namin, may pinarinig siya sa aking music para pagdating doon sa shooting ng scene na gagawin namin, hindi kami nagpapataasan, kumbaga magkasama kami sa movie.”
Paolo then narrates what happened while taping the scene.
“Just to build up a little bit, we did an acting exercise that I’ve learned a few years back to build a connection between two artists, para mas maging komportable ka.
“When we shot the scene, it was a beautiful scene. We did not have lines and it was just minutes of total silence and eye contact.
“That’s where it gets kind of awkward kasi. In other instances, nagiging awkward siya if you don’t have a connection with your co-artist. Pero in this case, since nagawa namin iyong exercise na iyon and we felt it, she felt it, si Direk Mac loved the scene also.”
Paolo also has good words for his partner.
“Sobrang na-appreciate ko iyong bravery ni Angeli sa project na ito.
“Pagdating sa mga love scenes, nagugulat ako sa kanya kasi sobrang walang kaarte-arte at saka kapag sinabi ni Direk na action, action talaga, ready na siya.”
