Can Regal Entertainment fulfill its plan to do 24 movies for 2008?
Last year, walo lang ang nagawang pelikula ng Regal nina Mother Lily Monteverde at Roselle Monteverde-Teo; isa ay co-production with GMA Films (The Promise) at tatlo ang naging entries sa 2007 Metro Manila Film (Shake Rattle & Roll 9, Bahay Kubo, and Desperadas). The other four movies were Happy Hearts, Hide and Seek, Tiyanaks, and My Kuya's Wedding.
This year, the oldest existing film production in the company plans to do two dozen movies.
Naka-isa na ang Regal for 2008, ang co-production with GMA Films na yearly tradition tuwing Valentine's—My Best Friend's Girlfriend starring Richard Gutierrez and Marian Rivera. Lumampas na ng P100 million ang box-office gross nito as of its second week.
April 16 naman ang bagong playdate ng Manay Po 2: Overload directed by Joel Lamangan starring Cherry Pie Picache, John Prats, Polo Ravales, Jiro Manio, and Rufa Mae Quinto.
Nag-resume na ang shooting ng Kulam ni director Jun Lana starring Judy Ann Santos and Dennis Trillo, together with Mart Escudero and Kris Bernal.
Nag-first shooting day last Thursday ang Love Is All That Matters, a May-December affair directed by Don Cuaresma. It stars Jean Garcia, Polo Ravales, Yasmien Kurdi, JC de Vera, John Prats, Ehra Madrigal, Aljur Abrenica, and Kris Bernal.
Sisimulan na rin ni Direk Joel Lamangan ang second movie niya for the year, the horror comedy Ang Nanay Kong Aswang. Wala pang final casting ang movie, but the role intended for Jennylyn Mercado and Mark Herras will now be given to Jennica Garcia and Mart Escudero bilang follow-up sa Hide and Seek nila last year.
A trilogy is also in pre-production, ang Ultraelectromagnetic Love based on the songs of the Eraserheads.
Na-announce na rin ang magiging launching movie ng isa sa mga bagong Regal Babies na si Nina Jose, ang Sweet Papa written by RJ Nuevas and co-starring Rufa Mae Quinto and Katrina Halili.
For December, balak na isumite ng Regal sa MMFF ang tenth edition ng Shake, Rattle & Roll, the sequel to last year's sleeper hit Desperadas, and a horror-comedy titled Atang Family.
Kung ano pa ang mahigit isang dosenang pelikulang ilalatag ng Regal, pinag-aaralan pa. But for sure, it will break past the company's output last year.
