Direk Dante sent a text message to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) regarding this victory at 2:15 am (Manila time) on August 2. The award for Best Film comes with a cash prize.

The acclaimed director is currently in Durban, South Africa, to field Foster Child as one of the competition features and Tirador in the official selection. In the previous edition of the filmfest held annually in South Africa, Cherry Pie was adjudged Best Actress for the movie Kaleldo (international title: Summer Heat) "for a sustained and controlled performance of the character of the gay sister, Jess, who despite her apparent cultivated masculine exterior betrays a softness which can hardly be seen but can be felt by all."
