Just The 3 Of Us, starring John Lloyd Cruz and Jennylyn Mercado, earned P16 million during its May 4 opening day.
This was revealed by Star Cinema AdProm manager Mico del Rosario via his Instagram account around 1 am on May 5.
This project marks the first time that the GMA-7 actress was paired with the ABS-CBN actor for a movie.
When he heard that Jennylyn would be his leading lady, what was his initial reaction?
"Hindi na rin siya bago ngayon,” said John Lloyd in the recent press conference of Just The 3 Of Us held at the Ayala Fairview Terraces.
“Si Dingdong [Dantes], nakadalawang pelikula na sa Star Cinema. Si Marian [Rivera], nakagawa na ng pelikula.
“Okay nga, e. Music to my ears. Napakaliit lang ng industriya natin. I understand the network wars...what seems to be war, pero yung buong industry dapat united."
Direk Cathy Garcia Molina was very careful in ensuring that John Lloyd would offer something new to viewers this time.
“Sa sampung pelikula na ginawa namin, sampung characters ang ginawa namin. Apart from the TV shows and films na ginawa niya with other directors. Ang hirap talaga ibahin siya every time.
“Yung yung challenge namin sa isa’t isa, lalol na kay Lloydie na maiba siya every time. Iiyak ng iba, tatawa ng iba, magmamahal ng iba.”
In fact, there was one instance wherein Direk Cathy saw John Lloyd stepping out of character.
“Dapat yun na ang breakdown scene niya. Pero sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Can we do it again?’ He asked, ‘Why?’ Sabi ko, ‘Nakita ko si Popoy. Pinapanood ko sa kanya at nakita naman niya. Inulit niya.”
Popoy refers to John Lloyd's character in the blockbuster movies One More Chance (2007) and A Second Chance (2015).
Just The 3 Of Us features the unlikely love story between polar opposites Uno (John Lloyd) and CJ (Jennylyn)--two strangers whose lives are changed forever by one night. Unforeseen circumstances collide and force Uno and CJ to live under the same roof as they both deal with their sense of responsibility and their yearning for security. Uno is motivated by his sense of family while CJ is governed by an unconditional love that should put her family first above everything else.
Directed by Cathy Garcia Molina, this R-13 movie is graded B by the Cinema Evaluation Board.
