Indie films still rule Urian nominations


(Clockwise) Endo, Confessional, Tirador, and Foster Child are nominated for Best Picture in this year's Urian Awards.



Mga independent movies muli ang namayani sa nominasyon this year ng Urian Awards na ipinamamahagi ng Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, ang pinakamatandang critics' group dito sa Pilipinas.

Mula noong 2003, pawang mga indie movies ang winner ng best-picture award sa Urian. Sa taong ito, ang anim na nominado para sa best picture ay pawang indie films. Ito ay ang mga sumusunod: Confessional nina Jerrold Tarog at Ruel Dahis Antipuesto; Endo mula kay Jade Castro; Foster Child at Tirador mula kay Dante Mendoza; Death in the Land of Encantos mula kay Lav Diaz; at Tribu mula kay Jim Libiran



Bagamat puwedeng ihanay ang Foster Child na iprinodyus ng Seiko Films sa mainstream category, idinirek naman ito ni Dante Mendoza na kilala sa paggawa ng indie movies.

Pinakaraming nakopong nominasyon ang Foster Child, Tribu, at Tambolista (na dinirek ni Adolf Alix, Jr) with ten each. Pero hindi kasama sa best picture race ang Tambolista.

Nakasiyam na nominasyon ang Tirador samantalang parehong may walong nominasyon ang Endo at Confessional.



Dalawa ang nominasyon ni Dante Mendoza for Best Director at Best Picture para sa Tirador at Foster Child. Pero dalawa rin ang natamong acting nominations nina Jiro Manio (Best Actor para sa Tambolista at Best Supporting Actor para sa Foster Child) at Sid Lucero (Best Actor para sa Selda at Best Supporting Actor para sa Tambolista).

Magkakalaban for Best Actress sina Glaiza de Castro (Still Life), Ina Feleo (Endo), Cherry Pie Picache (Foster Child), Judy Ann Santos (Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo), at Lorna Tolentino (Katas ng Saudi).

Kapapanalo lang ni Cherry Pie ng best-actress award mula sa Durban International Film Festival last week para sa Foster Child. Ang pelikulang ito rin ang nagbigay sa kanya ng best-actress award mula sa Golden Screen Awards ng Entertainment Press Society last June.

Si Lorna Tolentino naman ang nagwagi ng Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy sa Golden Screen Awards para sa Katas ng Saudi.

Nominado naman for Best Actor sina Jason Abalos (Endo), Jerrold Tarog (Confessional), Roeder Camanag (Death in the Land of Encantos), Jinggoy Estrada (Katas ng Saudi), Sid Lucero (Selda), Jiro Manio (Tambolista), Romnick Sarmenta (Prinsesa), at O.G. Sacred (Tribu).

Dalawang best actor awards na ang napanalunan ni Jinggoy for Katas ng Saudi; mula sa Metro Manila Film Festival last December at sa Golden Screen Awards last June.

Ang iba pang nominado for Best Supporting Actor ay sina Publio Briones, (Confessional), Benjamin Fileo (Tirador), Alchris Galura (Endo), Emilio Garcia (Selda), at Coco Martin (Tambolista).
