Is Richard Yap bidding goodbye to his corporate, wholesome image?
Well, at least for The Achy Breaky Hearts, his fans can look forward to seeing him bare his toned muscles.
In this movie, Jodi Sta. Maria will have to choose between the characters of Richard and Ian Veneracion.
Last week, Richard teased #TeamChinoy fans about his topless scene in the movie showing him taking a dip in the water.
Yes, at 49, he maintained his physique – which doesn't seem like a dad bod, but a really, hot bod!
During the Team Chinoy Media Day last June 19, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other members of the media were able to ask Richard about this scene in the The Achy Breaky Hearts, which opens June 29 in cinemas.
The Kapamilya actor said he made it a point to stay fit since his high school and college days.
“I think it’s a constant effort to be fit, so it’s a lifestyle for me.
"May times lang na lumaki ako pero that was my own choice kasi nagpapalaki talaga ako.
"Now, parang mas gusto ko naman na medyo mas lean. I’ve been working on that since the past year naman."
One of Richard's past workout posts.
According to Richard, it's a good thing that his body was already prepared for the scene he did with leading lady Jodi.
"Hindi naman sinadya yun pero it was part of the movie na kinailangan kong gawin. Buti na lang medyo nataon na medyo nasa kondisyon tayo."
Jodi attested to Richard's efforts in preparing for the topless sequence.
This is not the first time, however, that Richard did a topless scene in a movie. He also did it in an "post-lovemaking" scene with Maja Salvador in the 2015 film You're Still The One.
IAN'S RIVAL. In the movie, Richard Yap plays Frank, the ex-boyfriend of Chinggay who tries to win her back. Frank is the rival of Chinggay's suitor Ryan, played by Ian Veneracion.
During the press conference proper, Richard was asked why Chinggay should choose Frank instead of Ryan.
He explained, "Kasi napagdaanan na namin mga mali sa relationship namin. This time, we will try to make it a perfect relationship.
"So dapat pipiliin na niya ako kasi alam ko na anong ginawa kong mali so babaguhin ko. Yung bago, kakapain pa niya."
Richard, who first worked with Jodi in the two-year series Be Careful With My Heart, was also asked if he saw Ian as a rival to Jodi when it comes to pairings.
It can be remembered that the JoChard tandem was first formed in the Be Careful daytime series. When the show ended in November 2014, Jodi was paired with Ian in the remake of Pangako Sa 'Yo, wherein their tandem JodIan had a huge following.

Richard jokingly answered, "Kaya nga kami nagbreak, e, dahil doon. Ito yung continuation!"
Turning serious, he reasoned out, "No, we really have to do separate projects to grow as actors also.
"So I don't think he was a rival. I think it was a career move.
"Binigyan din naman ako ng projects. Hindi lang natuloy at that time."
Richard was talking about his supposed project with Judy Ann Santos titled Someone To Watch Over Me. However, the teleserye had to stop taping after Judy Ann got pregnant.
Richard then did guest roles in the teleseryes Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita and FPJ's Ang Probinsyano.
