Jodi Sta. Maria explains why she prefers married men as love team partners

Jodi Sta. Maria prefers to be paired with married men like her onscreen partners Ian Veneracion and Richard Yap. "Mas madali nga for me to be working with them kasi talagang kaibigan. Walang mga ulterior motive, walang hidden agenda."

Jodi Sta. Maria said that she prefers to be paired with married men in TV and movie projects, just like her partnerships with Ian Veneracion and Richard Yap.

She reasoned out, "Siguro para sa akin, I feel safer kasi di ba, parang harmless na. Of course, I know their respective wives.

"And mas madali nga for me to be working with them kasi talagang kaibigan. Walang mga ulterior motive, walang hidden agenda. Trabaho ito."

It can be remembered that Jodi once had a real-life relationship with former onscreen partner Baron Geisler. They previously worked with each other in the now defunct youth-oriented show Tabing Ilog.

If she had a choice to be romantically involved with either Richard or Ian, who would she choose?

The 34-year-old actress answered, "Wala, because I'd rather have them both as a friend. It's more than just a physical thing pero wala talaga.

"Mas gusto ko silang kaibigan kasi mahirap po, when you start to develop feelings more than yung friendly feeling, mahirap kasi doon na nagkakaroon ng problema.

"And kung ano yung friendship na meron ako kay Ian, and friendship na meron ako kay Richard, gusto ko ma-preserve yun, ayokong masira. So wala akong pipiliin."

In the movie The Achy Breaky Hearts, her character Chinggay must make a choice between Richard's character Frank, and Ian's character Ryan.

Jodi says she also cannot decide whom her character should choose between Frank and Ryan.

"Kung ako po yung papipiliin, siyempre para ako kay Chinggay.

"Single siya for the longest time pero hindi naman dahil sa ang tagal niyang single, e, magra-rush siya into something para magkaroon siya ng boyfriend.

"Siyempre, ang tagal niyang single, ang dami niyang love na ibibigay. Pero may mga pero.

"So para sa akin, dapat hindi siya mag-settle just because gusto lang niya magka-lovelife."

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and select members of the media were able to interview Jodi during the Team Tisoy Media Day of The Achy Breaky Hearts last June 16.

TABING ILOG REUNION. It seems like reunions of teen barkada shows are becoming a trend lately.

For this reason, PEP asked Jodi if cast members of Tabing Ilog are planning to have a reunion soon.

Incidentally, Jodi and former Tabing Ilog co-star Desiree del Valle are working together in The Achy Breaky Hearts.

Jodi said, "I think yung huling reunion was last year yata but unfortunately, hindi ako nakapunta.

"But then, sabi ni Des [Desiree], kasi kasama ko siya dito sa film, nag-a-arrange sila ulit ng reunion either this year or next year or kung kailan magiging maluwag ang schedule ng lahat.

Aside from Baron and Desiree, Jodi's co-stars in Tabing Ilog were Kaye Abad, Paolo Contis, Paula Peralejo, Patrick Garcia, and John Lloyd Cruz.

In January 2015, the cast and staff of Tabing Ilog had a mini-reunion as posted by ABS-CBN director Rechie del Carmen, who served as one of the directors of the series.

However, the only stars present at that time were Desiree, Paula, Kaye, and John Lloyd together with Tabing Ilog first unit director Malu Sevilla.

Jodi feels excited for the reunion of her co-stars in the series that aired from 1999 to 2003.

"Nakaka-excite at saka four years kami magkakasama and yung mga nakasama ko sa Tabing Ilog, sila talaga yung mako-consider ko na mga kaibigan ko sa industriya."
