Imagine You And Me, starring Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, has "surpassed expectations" of GMA Films.
The movie production arm of the Kapuso Network co-produced the film along with APT Entertainment and M-Zet Productions.
Directed by Michael Tuviera, this film is the first solo film of the love team popularly known as AlDub.
Imagine You And Me was shot at the City of Como in Lombardy, Italy last May. The ensemble cast include Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Irma Adlawan, Yayo Aguila, William Martinez, Luis Alandy, Elijah Alejo, Cacai Bautista, and Cai Cortez.
It was released last Wednesday, July 13, in over 230 cinemas nationwide. The film earned P21.5 million on its first day making it 2016's highest-grossing Filipino film on its opening day.
With this feat, GMA Films President Annette Gozon-Abrogar says AlDub's movie exceeded expectations via a text message sent to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
The message reads: "We are so overwhelmed by the support and love for Alden and Maine that have been shown through the over-pouring support for Imagine You and Me. The support the movie has been getting has surpassed our expectations and for that we are truly grateful. The positive word of mouth that has been generated for the movie has been phenomenal too. Iba ang Aldub. That's all I can say. Thanks."
PEP took the opportunity to ask the lady executive about the film's box-office gross after five days in theaters.
Ms. Annette responded by sending the text message: "APT would rather not disclose kasi the figures [emoji] they told us."
AlDub Nation's #TeamAbroad will be able to watch the film as Imagine You and Me is scheduled to have international screenings in Milan and Rome, Italy; London, England; and in New Zealand.
