Charo Santos-Concio's comeback movie Ang Babaeng Humayo will be part of the main competition of the prestigious 73rd Venice International Film Festival.
This was announced through Star Cinema's Instagram account today, July 28.
This movie directed by Lav Diaz will also star John Lloyd Cruz.
In an Instagram post by Star Cinema's AdProm Director Mico del Rosario, he shared how Ma'am Charo and Direk Lav hugged during their first meeting after the announcement of the good news.
In his caption, Mico said that Ang Babaeng Humayo is the only Asian film included in the main competition.
The Venice Film Fest will take place in Lido, Venice from August 31 to September 10, 2016.
The film known internationally as The Woman Who Left also stars Michael de Mesa, Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino, Nonie Buencamino, Marj Lorico, Mayen Estanero, Romelyn Sale, Lao Rodriguez, Jean Judith Javier, Mae Paner, and Kakai Bautista.
This is not the first time that a Lav Diaz film made it to the Venice International Film Festival. In 2008, his film Melancholia starring Angeli Bayani won the Horizons prize at the 65th edition of the film fest.
Meanwhile, Brillante Mendoza's Thy Womb was also a part of the main competition category of the 69th edition of the Venice Film Fest.
Last February, Lav's film Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis won the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer prize at 66th Berlin International Film Festival.
